A small bumper-to-bumper. We walked away with the impressoin that we'll try to settle this off the record.

But also a cop showed up and had a report done too.

1. Does that mean my insurance will find out and my points will go up even if neither party claims any cost?

2. Does this mean my DMV/RMV will give me a mark me up for this event? I don't have a great driving record (from running a stop sign) and I've gotten a notice before saying if I have one more moving violation, my license may get suspended. But this was an Accident and I didn't commit any moving violation? How does this work?

Please chime in. Thanks. Man.. what a day yesterday.

did you get cited?

no.

the cop just said he needs to file this report and took both parties' info.

then chances are you probably won't get your license suspended.

Normally though, if a cop is there to take a report of the accident and he determines who is at fault, they will give a citation to the one at fault.

In your case the cop didn't give you a citation, but that doesn't mean you weren't at fault...we need more details.

Since he is so vague, I would guess he rear end the other guy. BTW, you might get your ticket in the mail.

since you didn't get a ticket then it will not go on to your record. If there is any damage and both parties choose to settle it without the insurance companies then your rate will not go up as well. The only worry you would have is if the other party contacted your insurance company and didn't let you know. Otherwise there are no worries all around for your record or insurance. *went though the same thing with my last car*

If you're not a fault, nothing will happen. Be completely certain that there was no damage to your vehicle; if there is anything, have it repaired since the other guy's insurance will pay for it.
Your insurance will find out about it and your rates have a 99.9% chance of going up. Even a fender bender with no claimed damages means you are statistically more likely to get into accidents (one is greater than none).

If you're at fault, you'll probably get cited and your license suspended. Your insurance will definitely go up. If the other guy has any damages, your insurance will go up even more (to pay for the extra money they had to pay out to fix someone else's vehicle).

Why... people get in worse accidents and don't go to jail

It will only get back to insurance if you or the other driver reports it.
