Fortunately, I realized what was happening, and I was able to quickly DL a quick fix from download.com. I hope it fixed it. I NEED MY FILES DAMMIT! FYI, the email was titled SOME QUESTIONS. The sender name looked similiar to someone I know, so I opened it w/o thinking.

ThePresence, were you running any A/V software and was it up to date? I only ask this question because I don't want the same thing to happen to me. I'm sorry to hear you were hit :(

Weren't you one of those "I don't run a virusscanner and I've never been infected!" people?

No. I usually have one running, but I had shut it down because I thought it was slowing down my system.

Heh, i just had this discussion with charrison who believes that he will never get infected either... it's people like them that spread the viruses...

Bro, if you aren't running an A/V software program, you most likely deserve it, sorry, but I'm being realistic w/ all the viruses going around lately. If you need a copy of Norton A/V, PM me and I'll send one to you for free :)

Hahahahaha :)

NAV doesn't slow the system down that badly. If you used McAfee I'd recommend switching to NAV though.
I only disable it temporarily when playing games, but then I kill all other programs too anyway.

Good advice Skyclad1uhm1, but just be sure that when you play an online game, you always keep your firewall & anti-virus program running, especially if you are on BB, just because you're having a good time playing games, it doesn't mean someone else isn't as well, catch my drift.

Upgraded my *DSL modem so it's a firewall. When not playing I also run ZoneAlarm, but I like playing with <20 ms pings on Wolfenstein :)
My ISP also filters a lot of crap (virus related and otherwise) out, so I'm actually pretty secure already.

I've been getting ~20 emails a day with that Klez virus for over a month now I think. My subscription to NAV just expired too, but it's not a big deal really... Just means I can't get updates until I pay again.

Mcafeee sucks but so does NAV... you want a good AV program that is small and does not take up system resources?

Nod32 is what you are looking for... i have tried just about every AV product out there, Nod32 is the best...

I got the same thing a year ago, dont know how, and I'd somehow disabled my NAV automatic feature.

Ended up reformatting after trying a fix but didn't lose much thankfully. Now I run two separated boxes and update one every so often with Settings and Transfer wizard.

I had it a couple of weeks ago. Got rid of it with Trend Micro's cleaner.
I'm running Norton religiously now.

I think the days of antivirus software slowing down a computer are gone. Sure, if you have a PII 400 you might have to worry, but I bet very few people in these forums use anything less than a 1 Ghz CPU and most probably are near 2 Ghz. That's fast enough so you don't really have to worry about it.
