I got hit by a car today

I was in a cross walk, had the legal right of way and was half way through crossing the two lane road when a car suddenly sped up and tried to make it past without needing to stop. Instead they hit me. Fortunately it was only a glancing blow. I'm not entirely sure where I impacted the car but my guess would be around the front wheel.

But it spun me around and knocked me on my ass. My glasses went flying. Overall just some scrapes and bruises but the glasses flying off is important. Because the Asshole. Drove. Off. Didn't stop. And I couldn't get the license plate because I can't see shit without my glasses or contacts. None of the bystanders got it either because they were all trying to make sure I was ok.

So now I have to deal with the directionless anger of knowing there won't be any retribution. And it's not like this was some giant roadway with no pedestrians. It was on a fucking college campus where thousands of students cross that road every day.

So could be way worse as there just appears to be some sore muscles and I made it through the rest of the work day. But I'm still pissed off. Like really pissed off.

The only solace I get is thinking about what an unusual day it was for a particular tour group. A group of young kids (5-7) were just about to enter the crosswalk opposite me. They got to see someone hit by a car, who then jumped up and start running down the street, screaming obscenities at the fleeing car.

Well I guess I get some amusement about using this as an excuse to not do things. I cancelled a few meetings with
"I'm ok but meeting is canceled because I was hit by a car at a crosswalk."

"I need you to reach out to this person for me."
Why me?
" Because I got hit by a car."

There are a couple of semi-important requests for information I didn't respond to today so tomorrow I'll send
"Sorry I didn't get to this yesterday - I got run over by a car. Here is the information you requested"

Any any traffic cams or buildings nearby with cameras, call the police? Hit and run is a serous offense.

No cameras close enough to do any good. Police report filed. Sadly a hit and run is not a huge offense in MI unless I was injured enough to be admitted to the hospital. I know that from my previous hit and run experience less than a year ago

I had a woman pull out and stop in front of me today. Why do people do that?! You're not being safe, and you aren't making anything better for anybody. Your dead ass is sitting in the lane blocking traffic, and if I didn't have time to stop it's a 100% chance I'm hitting you. If you're gonna pull out on someone, act like you own the road. Stomp the gas, and get on your way. I'll only be pissed for a couple seconds instead of the solid three minute rage you caused by blocking the road :^S

Oh, and glad you're ok Exterous :^D

Look, I'm sorry, but my burrito was getting cold. 😉

(Glad you're relatively ok, Exterous. There's a special place in hell for ignorant people. It's really crowded there, too.)

People can be such assholes behind the wheel. I was crossing the street the other day, noticed a big pickup truck in the distance as I got to the centre of the road but had enough time to continue crossing, he was at least 300m away and going fairly slowly. The asshole actually SPED UP. Like he actually wanted to hit me. At this point when I noticed him speeding up I was already in the middle of the lane so had to run to get out of the way. Not the first time I've had that happen. Another thing here, when people are turning in an intersection (usually left turns) they don't actually check for cross pedestrian traffic. So many people here get hit because of that. They just want to do their turn quickly before oncoming traffic catches up and causes them to have to stop and wait. It's actually becoming more and more dangerous to be a pedestrian here. If it's not a car that gets you, it's some crazy person with a knife.

And yeah it sucks to know that they get away with this crap. There are times where I wanted to report aggressive drivers but it's hard to get a plate number at the heat of the moment if you can't pull anything out to write it on fast enough.

this. check with any houses or business in the area. you never know who might have something. also, if anyone who helped you had a dash cam.

On the bright side karma will get him/her... on the not-so-bright side, they will probably cause an accident or run over another person before that happens.

I don't understand why drivers rush, knowing that there are gonna be people crossing crosswalks. Aren't there speed limits around that area or in malls?

The only solace....

People like that driver are incapable of 2nd order thinking. Sadly, I ran across a few. They go through life with lots of helping hands - parents, spouse, government. They think the world is after them, but they cannot see the root of their troubles is themselves. They do stupid things like trashing the dryer lint trap, because it's got too dirty. Then buys a new dryer, because the current one is taking too long to dry. Then returns the new one, because it's "defective - takes too long to dry." lol Some people refer to this as karma. I've learned a long time ago to stay far away from them, leaving them to their misery. Nothing good will come from helping them, only more work.

Thanks for the well wishes guys

A bit stiff and sore today - about what I expected. Still a fair amount of anger. I tend to obsess about some things. Works well for certain areas like my job and retirement savings but is less helpful in scenarios like these. It's been like the Disney song in my head most of the day so far: "Let it go Let it GO!"

There are speed limits and tons of people cross this road all the time

wow, glad you are ok!

you should definitely paint a diagram of the crime and post it here.

I'm not really feeling the creative juices on this one. Probably because I am in some pain from it while the other accident Paints were all cosmetic car damage

At least get the make/model of the car as it was approaching you?

Approaching? No. Leaving yes. A black Chrysler 200 or 300 which, for SE Michigan, is basically like saying "A car hit me".

Dick mode:\
"I impacted the car but my guess would be around the front wheel."
So you hit the car. You might find a bill in the mail for a new quarter panel and side mirror!
:\Off
Just kidding around. I'm glad you're fine. Do see a doctor anyway. And don't over use the excuse to get out of your responsibilities.

I was not in MI yesterday. Just sayin.
I'm here but it wasn't me Exterous!

That sucks but glad that you're ok. It actually doesn't surprise me too much, people fail so hard at driving.

Also related to Michigan driving, the particular spot I see the most likely for accidents are the on-ramps to the highway by where I live:

The blue/green arrows indicate direction of travel. The smaller road is part of the on-ramp to the highway. Now SOME of them have a "Yield" sign in between where those two little lanes merge just before reaching the highway, but a lot don't. And people will just come flying down that outside lane and NOT EVEN BE LOOKING when they merge with the other lane. I've witnessed (and been in) many near accidents here. I'm surprised they don't happen more often; I guess it's usually just close calls.

This was pretty much just an excuse to do an MS Paint drawing. And because that non-yield on-ramp situation bugs me. Sorry for the thread hi-jack attempt! lol

When I was but a teenager, I went to cross the street that wasn't at an intersection with a crosswalk. Traffic was low and the vehicle that ended up hitting me was going so slow--driven by and elderly man with his wife--that I truly didn't catch it as a moving vehicle. They were so stunned about what had happened that they wanted to take me to the hospital. I laughed as I wasn't even knocked down and the bread I was carrying (just purchased at convenience store) wasn't even squished.

that exact scenario happened to my older brother when we were just kids...but he opted for the ambulance because he has never been in an ambulance. LOL.
