I got gas at a cheaper station today

Today I didn't feel like going to the station I normally use because the traffic is so bad around it, so I went to another one on my way home from work that's easier to pull into/out of. The gas was $2.93 when practically everywhere else it was $2.95. Should I assume there's a reason for that, like it's worse/dirtier gas? That what everyone's telling me.

Wow, $0.02! With that savings rate, you'll be able to buy a new plasma tv in 2 months!

In my experience, no. Simple psychology. If everyone else charges 2.95, if you charge 2.94 or 2.93, people will go a little further out of their way to save a few cents.

ignore them. it's probably from the same truck.
Well people tell me it's from the BOTTOM of the tank.

Uh.... ok.
Hey...it seemed senseless to me, too, but after like four different people told me that I was like, what the hell, might as well check with ATOT.

Our local walmart gas stations undercuts the rest by $.10 to $.15 regularly, is that worse gas?

(Bigger difference than .02)

what you are going to get into is Exxon versus BP versus Speedway versus Shell... blah blah blah
between two of the same place? same gas, different day different truck (maybe same truck)... all gas, no matter what placement it has in the truck, is the same gas, curtesy of the refinery it came out of.
now, if its different brands, that means different refineries. that might mean some companies have less worthy gas than others... but is your car going to notice? almost certainly not.

cheaper price is not saying its lower quality gas, its the station saying they are ready for business. having a lower price will attract people, no matter the price difference. 2 cents likely had the station see better business which means it probably came out in the end with better profits that day.

oh and im also calling shens, just for some reason.. i felt like calling it ;)

No it's not worse. That would be like thinking you're getting a "better" piece of hardware from ZZF just because it's more expensive than the same thing a newegg. Do you really think the cost to the store changes depending on how much gas is left in the truck?

No, I'm not sure if different companies have different gas, but the same station will not charge less when it thinks the gas it has at the time is crappy.

There's a gas station out in the boonies here in GA that I found that if you slowly pump gas that it doesn't register on the pump. It's one of those older style pumps that have the little wheels with the numbers on them. I found it out by topping off the tank. I could feel that the gas was flowingg but the numbers were not spinning. I pulled the nozzle out far enough to see that indeed the gas was flowing. Would it be wrong to take advantage of it?

That's not necessarily true. Most of the gas for all companies is piped through the same lines. A company can throw a certain volume in at one end of the pipeline and the same day take out the same volume at the other end across the country even though the gas they put in won't get there for several days.

Your either getting the same gas as namebrand without the additive, or you are getting the namebrand surplus gas.

It might start out as the same gas....but smaller gas stations may have problems with water contamination, etc....most of the time it's all fine though.
