Why, you apparently deserved it. Stop thinking about what's easiest for YOU and show consideration for others and this won't happen very often.

the worst of people's character comes to the surface when driving.. I wouldn't let it bother you.

The ultimate test of character, of what's truly buried inside yourself, is to watch yourself react while driving. Are you aggressive and hostile? I admit I can be.

Controlling and modifying these aggressive reactions is a great way to create positive change in life. It will spill over into other areas. Instead of being led around by your emotions, tell yourself consciously you are not going to act this way anymore... consciously change your thoughts and believe it, and your emotions will follow and it will eventually become second nature.

Besides, you hardly save any time driving around like a maniac unless you are driving very long distances.

On another note, the speed limits on interstates here in South Dakota increases to 80 mph on April 1.

I'm such a selfish driver that getting flipped off only makes me smile & laugh now. My driving induces road rage.

Driving like a maniac reduces travel time if long red lights are involved.

Come on down to Florida. It's a daily occurrence down here. The unofficial speed limit is 10 to 15 over the limit. Staying in the right lane at 5 over will get you tailgated and flipped off.

sounds like the speed limits are defective.... Please try to drive safe and go the speed of traffic, do not drive dangerous and go against the flow.

In my area people love doing u turns on a red light. Not when it just turns red but was already red for over a minute. I do not pray for them at all. One day an 18 wheeler will hit them and I will just mumble: They asked for it

Yes. It derives from "flipping the bird." "Flicked off" is what someone does when they have garbage stuck to their finger, such as after picking their nose. I can only assume the OP was spelunking in a giant nostril, was forcibly removed in the digital manner typically used for clearing noses, and subsequently "flicked off" the finger in a manner befitting nasal invaders.

Given what I know about how people react to even minor inconveniences while driving, I doubt that whatever you did deserved the response you got. I make allowances for people zoning out or just getting momentarily confused while driving. It's happened to me, so I assume it probably happens to everyone sometimes. My sympathy stops only when you have been made aware of your error and do nothing to fix it. For instance if you continued blocking the lane after you realized you were displeasing other drivers, you deserved what you got.

This is what I thought, or that he was a small insect of some sort which has the internet and fingers to type on a keyboard.

Good to know I was not wrong on this my entire life. Never heard flicked off used in that manner before.

Good advice about changing your thoughts and emotions.

As for the bolded, man I'd love that around here (Ann Arbor, MI area) but it wouldn't do much difference I think. So many people don't do the existing speed limit of 70, or fucking poke in the left lane like goddamn inbred fucking morons, that a higher speed limit would have a minimal impact IMO.

Nothing I love better than a dickhead weaving through traffic at dangerous speeds during dangerous times (mass traffic, so it won't help you much - or when it's raining). When you know you're in the lane he intends to pass with... speed up to match the guy next to you. Now watch your rearview mirror as the butt-hurt of him will flow through to you as you see him pounding his fucking steering wheel in butt-hurt rage. It's beautiful. Brings a tear to my eye sometimes.

Yea live and learn I guessed. It just hurts.

Meh, don't be so hard on yourself either, I've earned a few "salutes" myself as have most of us. I mostly drive mellow these days because I live in FL and you know, guns..

LOL, yea, the cops tend to stay in areas where they can generate the most $$ revenue and a lot of the highways are not heavily patrolled at all, leads to the "Mad Max" syndrome. Then you throw in a mix of locals who moved in from up north and are impatient and rude, locals who grew up around here who now drive trucks bigger than some houses, old farts who insist that 50 is plenty fast on the interstate and let's not forget lost gawking tourists and BAM, there's your disaster waiting to happen. I never venture on I-95 or I-4 without at least a half-tank of fuel as there are so many accidents it's 50/50 that your going to get stuck in a colossal traffic snarl while they tow off wrecked vehicles and bodies from the roadway.
