I got bored, so I pushed my Barton 2500+ to the limits!

It was early in the morning, I couldn't sleep, so I decided to give my XP 2500+ a kick in the pants. I got up to 2.43GHz (1.85 actual Volts) before it or my RAM or my motherboard crapped out along with me. Here's my setup:

XP 2500+ AQXEA (older unlocked one)
Abit NF7-S 2.0
1x512 Buffalo PC3200 (Winbond CH-5) running at 11-3-3-2.5
With my overclocked FX 5900nu, I scored 17119 using the 53.03 FWs.

Sandra scores as follows:
CPU Arithmetic
Dhrystone ALU 9228 MIPS
Whetstone FPU 3818 MFLOPS

CPU Multimedia
Integer 22185 it/s
Float 22844 it/s

Mem Bandwidth
Int buffered 3284 MB/s
Fload buffered 3017 MB/s

Are these results in line with others? And before you ask, YES I am gloating :).

No...that is probably the worst overclock I've seen for a Barton 2500+. You must have a bad chip there.

As I am a CPU connoisseur, I'll be glad to take it off your hands... :)

I meant the Sandra results not the clock speed (I know that it's pretty high compared to a lot out there). Thanks for the offer but I think I'll keep this one :).

Thanks, just wonder what I could do with some faster memory and better cooling :D.
Taking donations for water cooling setup, PM for details ;):)

EDIT: I just found a 20" cooling fan and remembered that memory timings can be relaxed... This may take a while .

jesus, he kept me up all night with this and his attempt at 17000 3dmarks that kept getting thwarted by some error that wouldnt let him ul it :p...

I'll be in a cooler room tonight :). More OCing to come.
BTW: Welcome to AT! Stick around and enjoy the surroundings.

3DMark01 has a feature that watches for cpu speed fluctuation. Its supposed to stop people from cheating and from publishing results from severely unstable systems. Of course I'm not saying you were cheating or severely unstable, but this feature may have been what was keeping you from being able to puslish.

What was the highest FSB you were able to attain (boot into windows and run benchmarks)?

Good job by the way, I've gotten my chip up to 2415MHz but I stopped there as I am stuck with air cooling and a wife who is a hothouse flower (i.e. ambient temp. always at or above 74F).

Pelikan, it was stable enough to run three times in a row and finish but not submit for publication. I got it to successfully publish\submit at 17119 (the link in my OP) finally.

Megatomic, I got to 220MHz (440 DDR) at 11-3-3-2.5 and 2.8V with my Buffalo PC3200 (CH-5 chips) and the VDD bumped to 1.7V (stock appears to be 1.6 on the NF7-S). I might give it another go tonight seeing that the PC is normally in my basement, as opposed to rad00's room.

To anyone: What's the maximum safe voltage for CH-5 memory? I'm a bit hesitant to give it 2.9V unless it'll help out a good deal.

the CH-5 chips LOVE voltage!!! well thats what I have heard from a lot of people 3.0 vdimm should be fine even. but don't blame me if it dies!!!

I've got a crazy idea and I want to know what you guys think of it. Run two sticks of RAM at a 6/3 FSB:RAM divider in dual channel. Theoretically the same bandwidth of one stick at 1:1 while eliminating the memory as a bottleneck. Will there still be issues with synchronizing the clocks, etc. or does it sound like a plan?

You'll get better performance at 1:1. And if you can run dual channel it will increase performance to the equivalent of 100-200 MHz cpu speed.

2.43ghz is where my week 13 2500+ tops out stable on 1.85v *set in bios* as well. My present bios on my Soltek SL-75MRN-L tops out @211mhz FSB and it has the older A3 chipset so the vdd is 1.8v. I'm runnin' 422DDR dual channel synch mode with a 5800U@525/1.1ghz and here's my 3Dmock2k1se score with the 53.03 FW's 17,393 We scored nearly identically  I had slightly faster clockspeed and dual channel, you had higher synch'd fsb/ram. Just for a apples to apples comparison, here's my PCMock'02 score link

I'll have to install PCMark2002 sometime ;). I think I had the 5900 clocked at 460/900, don't exactly remember too vividly (lack of sleep will do that to ya).

Actually, OPPAINTER is up to 31,353 He's given up almost 1.5ghz to macci's P4EE with that FX51 and still pulled it out :Q He does have a slight advantage in the core/mem speeds of his card though.

Well, I got it to boot at 2.45 but it wasn't stable enough to run 3DMark, even after bumping the VDIMM up to 2.9 and relaxing the timings to 11-4-4-3. It's good to know it's got a bit of gas in the tank if I ever need it though.

I'm running at 2.5 lately, which gives me 19K in 3DMark01. That's with high quality settings in D3D. I've run 3DMark01 at up to 2.64 (but that's not stable in prime95) and that gets me over 20K. My 9800 Pro is conservatively overclocked to XT speeds (412/360) for these benchmarks and 24/7 use.
