So I'm at Ralph's supermarket picking up some things, among my items are Promax nutrition bars. The lady at the checkstand scanned them, then asked how old I was. I thought she was kidding or something, but she wasn't. She said that in California now, they cannot sell energy/protein bars to anyone underage. I asked her why this was, but she didn't know. WTF?!

Everyone knows that nutrition bars are addictive and that their advertising targets children and minorities.

Are they really addictive or are you being sarcastic?

for promax nutrition bars? haha, those are glorified snack bars (don't get me wrong, they taste good!)
I don't believe their are any bars that contain ephedra. They are found in pill and drink forms.

But whether or not there is a law in CA about not selling energy/protein bars to "underage" individuals, I don't know. I'm pretty sure this would have been mentioned somewhere. What would differentiate a promax bar with a snickers bar? (besides the sugar). My money is that she doesn't know any better.

They asked me for ID last time I bought crazy glue, but only at the market. I can goto any hobby shop and no questions are asked.

Your country have some of the most stupidest law in the world.

You can purchase glue, gas & get a license to kill (driving), but you can't get alcohol or buy nutrition bars.
