What, like a FIRO-B or Myers-Briggs? Just be yourself, your wonderful, conforming, go with the flow, never late for work, self :p
All jokes aside, just be yourself and don't worry about "beating" the test. Personality tests just give the employer some insight as to what kind of person you are, why lie?

Make sure that you understand what they want. Ask them which one of your personalities should fill out the form.

Most likely they'll ask you a stupid question like this..

If you saw a co-worker put a company bought pen into her purse what should you do?

A) Ignore it and pretend it didn't happen
B) Tell her you saw her and have her put it back
C) Report her to management so she can be fired and brought up on theft charges.

You should answer C

Not if you want to work at a big company like say Enron or Worldcom.

Ive done two of these and the questinos ive been asked are:

talk about a time you had to switch tasks quickly

talk about a time you had to make a quick decision

I cant think of any others off the top of my head but they are pretty damn lame imo. the theory behind them is that how you handle past situations will be a reflection of how you will handle things in the future. of course if you are a young guy still learning i tend to disagree with this approach but its not like you or I have a say, only the dumbasses in HR

I had a personality test during my last interview and i swore they thought i was a moron. they said they'd get back to me in 2-3 weeks but one week later I got an offer. go figure. just be prepared for really off the wall questions. there were many times it took me like one minute to think of an answer.

I doubt it's that kind of a personality test.

I've taken several personality tests, much to my chagrin, and they were mostly just so they could discern where I'd be most comfortable. They wouldn't want to stick me, an INTP (Introverted iNtuitive Thinking Perceiving) person with an ENTP (Extraverted iNtuitive Thinking Perceiving) for example. On other tests, I was simply labeled "green"; every other software engineer in my group at that time got green as well. The marketing people were orange or some other flamboyant color :)

Whatever you do, don't lie. They'll catch it, and you'll look worse than if you answered everything "wrong". Also, if you answer something that deviates from your norm, they may stick you next to some obnoxious person because your personality test said your personalities were congruous.

In the end, it's analogous to a rancher who attempts to discern where his cattle will be most comfortable/happy so they can be as prolific as possible; until they're slaughtered.

Good luck!

Answer them you way you really think. Don't answer the way you think they want you to answer. I don't know how many potentially good employees I've lost because they answered like it was a game of "honesty."

For example:
"Have you ever lied to your Mom?"
Answering "No" or "Probably no" to this type of question is almost an automatic toss-out for you because in the eyes of the graders, nobody is that honest.

These stupid "personality evaluations" wasted a LOT of my time. It was one of the last things I would have to do after calling references and doing one or two interviews. Most of the good people would never make it past that damn test. :|

Just don't make your answers too extreme and you should be okay. ;)
