I got an ATI X850 XT on my XP home SP2 PC. Should i install CP, CCC, or both ?

First off, im not too enthusiastic about the .NET from microsoft using up a lot of memory, but i have enough RAM to spare. I have also realized that both control panels seem to have little differences when it comes to performance, and are therefore only different when it comes to ease of use, with the Catalyst clearly being easier. (not that i actually have problems with either.)

Anyways, i dont know which one to go with. Im thinking the Catalyst is the better way to go. But i have also tried selected both in the custom installation mode, as ATI allows me to, which installs both on my system but only allows me to use the Catalyst. The CP remains in the add/remove programs but cant be used. So this is kind of strange. You would think that if you cant use both, then ATI would only allow the user to select one of the two.

Should i just make my life simple and install both?

I found the CCC excellent, very helpful and clearly laid out, afaik Catalyst AI is only avaliable through CCC, it's been so long since i used the CP that i can't remember whether it gave you all the video options that the CCC gives you (i'm using a 6600GT now so i can't check, otherwise i would)...and the little real time 3d window that shows your changes to settings is kinda cool..CCC all the way 🙂

I don't like .NET at all because I found it included some kind of log on thing when I boot where I have to click on a profile before my machine turns on. Sometimes when I reboot my computer, I leave, I don't want to freakin' stay there to click on anything.

Can you have the CCC without .NET?

windowsupdate fixed that.

if you haven't updated, or don't want to:

Start > Run > 'control userpasswords2'
Uncheck the box for "Users must enter a user name and password for this computer."
