I got accepted for an internship?

I'm a graduating senior in Supply Chain Management at Miami U. of Ohio. Over winter break I applied for an internship position at a big electronics distribution company based in Phoenix, AZ. They were kinda surprised because they rarely get applicants from so far east... and they get about 300+ applicants but only accept less than 10?

Anyway, the recruiter emailed me over Spring Break saying that they were making offers to interns and wanted to know if I was available for the summer. I wasn't sure if this was an official offer, and I called her and told her that I was available. She told me to go apply on their website, and afterwards an HR person will contact me with the paperwork. I said ok and that was the end of the phone call.

So I guess I just accepted?

I'm kind of a late bloomer. Everyone else has already gotten actual jobs, and I'm still in the process of interviewing (badly) with some companies. I just don't have the relevant internship experience like my classmates have because my summers have all been used for taking classes.

So far:

Whirlpool: rejected
Jeld-Wen: rejected, this was especially promising at the time 🙁
Petsmart: pending, but probably rejected
Consulting group in Chicago: rejected
Schneider Electric: pending, probably rejected
ABF Logistics: asset-based logistics company, have an interview with them coming up, but not sure if I want to work for a company that is essentially a trucking company.

The internship place is a big player and deals with electronics (Cisco, AMD, Intel, etc), so it's JIT and seems more lucrative than, say, a trucking company and a retailer of pet products. Not to mention it is practically the embodiment of Supply Chain.

So... did I make a good choice? Getting an internship my graduating year when everyone else is getting a solid job? I hope to turn this internship into an actual job offer.

Shh I'm a graduating senior with no job yet. I havent applied much (only a bit).. senioritis sucks. I don't get how I'm not feeling worried at all whereas last year I was so worried about getting an internship and applying left and right.

Well, an internship in your own field is more valuable in the long run than a FT position in a field you don't want to continue a career within. Just network your tail off and do your best to turn this into good resume material and hopefully a real job offer.

Are they sure you are graduating? Lots of places have requirements for internships that include being enrolled full time in school for your next semester.

Anyways, take what you can get. The market is pretty bad now, so the competition is pretty tough. It took me 9 months to get a job after school. Good Luck.

Is late bloomer euphemism for procrastinator?

I'm pretty sure they know that I'm graduating. On the phone they asked me if I was available during the summer and I said that yes, I will have graduated by then. She sounded a little bit surprised but asked me when my commencement was. I said I wasn't entirely sure but that I knew it was in late May and the internship starts in June, so there shouldn't be any conflicts. Then she said ok and that I should go apply online and stuff.

Aye, I guess this can't be a BAD thing. They company definitely seems highly competitive and I think it's the largest company that's based in Phoenix, but they have offices all over the world. Even if I don't come out of it with a job, should be good resume material.

No, just that I've switched my major so many times. Every single summer has been spent taking classes in an effort to catch up with classes for my new major. It's the reason why I'm graduating in 5 years instead of 6. I've seriously never had a single free summer since I started college.

i don't think they offered you the internship if you are filling out an application. i think they're trying to see if you can do it and if you can, then go ahead and fill it out.

i could be wrong because i've never dealth with internships before.

I did the same as you and graduated in 3 years. Keep trying, it'll come.

But to answer your Q, no clue, it's very non-specific.

The internship sounds good if you really think you want to do that kind of thing.

Anyways, if you get something for a full time job, then take it. No one will crucify you for jumping ship from a full time job after 3 or 4 months (especially if it is your first real job). If you make that a trend, however, that will be a different story.

Well, I asked her "umm... is this an official offer?"

"I guess so."

"I got in?"

"Yup."

"Yay!!!"

"Excited?"

"Yay!!!"

fuzzy was on the phone so he'd know better than me, but with many positions it's typical to fill out the application after getting the offer. The application is just a formality. In my last 3 jobs I filled out the application after getting the offer.

I interviewed with them before Winter Break and on my Winter Break road trip I dropped by their corporate headquarters in Phoenix.

Umm that makes no sense, the HR person saying "I guess so".

I would call your HR contact and just "verify" the information/job offer. I don't know why didn't do this first. The longer you wait the less your chances become.

hahaha...why didn't you say that in the op? I thought they just called you for the first time. In that case, it is pretty obvious you got a position or tehy are really considering you for it. Take it, enjoy it, learn from it.

i graduated from my master's program without a job. taking time off is the best thing you can do for yourself after you graduate. you'll appreciate your job so much more, and you will get great offers if you get better at interviews and apply to more places. i didnt get an offer until 3 months post-grad and am doing better than most of the people i graduate with - i have better pay, more responsbilities, and much more room for growth.

Where was the Jeld Wen at? Was it in Chiloquin OR or Klamath Falls OR at the corporate headquarters? My step dad works there in R&D. The company sucks to work for, they treat their employees like shit.

you realize they have you starting in time of year in Phx where your skin spontaneously BURSTS INTO FLAME when you step outside...right?

I wanted to go to this restaurant when I was in Texas for my Spring Break.

believe it or not, never actually seen it. been using this username longer than i was aware that restaurant existed.

one day i was trying to log into my ebay account, thinking it's 'elfenix' there as well. typed that in and my usual password and it said the pw was incorrect. so i hit the hint button which was 'favorite mexican restaurant.' what a maroon!
