I got radared going 54 in a 40 last night around midnight. The cop was pretty cool and only made the ticket a 45 in a 40, and it was 76 bucks. The only thing he did wrong im guessing... is he didnt ask for my vehicle registration or proof of insurance. Could i tell the judge this and maybe get it droppped? I have a scan of the ticket if any of you want to see it.

The guy gave you a break, I wouldn't get him in trouble for failure to follow procedure. You might ruin it for everyone.

Just pay it ;)

Show up in court and fight it. You can sometimes get tickets dropped that way. It may not be the most honest thing in the world, but it could work if you want to try.

If you decide to fight it, don't try to use the license/registration thing as the reason to get it thrown out. The judge will think you are nuts.

If you fight it the cop is going to have to show up on his day off to testify. He gave you a break and now you want to stick it to him. After doing this how do you think he is going to react the next time he sees you on the road?

He did nothing wrong. Your registration is in the state's computer system. Local cops don't need to ask for registration. They type your license into their computer and your registration shows up on the screen. The only time they need to ask for registration is if it is not in the computer, ie, an out of state plate. Also, cops obviously don't need to ask for insurance. They only ask me about a third of the time (yes, I've probably been pulled over dozens of times).

5 over doesn't even get reported to insurance companies in my state. Yours might be similar. If it doesn't even get reported, just pay it and forget it. That's going to be your easiest option.

Don't forget, you already did get a huge break.

what the hell, you did the deed, be a man and accept the consequences. i don't want people like you clogging up the traffic court, only people with legitimate grievances should be there... not people trying to cheat the system

who the hell do you think you're?

The officer already gave you a break by giving you a lower ticket than you really should have got. You know you are wrong, but now you want to give this officer a trouble just because he failed to follow through the required process as your way of weaving out of your responsibility?

People that do this will make this officer bitter in the end and will be sure to issue exact citation as he observes and check for all required paperwork and more people will be cited on failure ot carry whatever paperwork they're supposed to be carrying.

Stop bitching and take your own responsibility. This is something many Americans needs to work on. Stop thinking "it's not my fault, it's someone else's".

Nay. Not about being jackass. Rather it's about attaching the responsibility sticker you got onto someone else. The stupid lawsuits among Americans really surprise me and this is a good example of product of this society.

See, if you fall on your ass in a grocery store, it's the store's fault for wet floor according to the view of person who just fell. Not the fault of himself for not realizing floor might be wet on a rainy day and not paying attention to where he's going.

I would take the money that you "saved" from the reduction in speed and talk to a traffic lawyer to see about pleading down to a non-moving violation so that your insurance does not go up.

I've done this with all the tickets I've gotten but my mother also worked in a law firm so cost to me was usually small. I think I paid double the fine on the lesser infraction twice, and double the fine on the speeding ticket once, plus $50-200 to the lawyer. Don't know how much it would cost if you didn't already know a lawyer tho.

For that type of speeding (5 miles over), you can either bargain with the DA for some deal ,or plea your case to the judge and got them waived all together (especially if this is your 1st offense). At the very least you should be able pay the fine without having the points tacked on to your driving record. A word of advice, NEVER admit that you're speeding in front of the DA, but in front of the judge, you might want to admit making a mistake, show how sorry you and the willingness accept the responsibility to get to his good side and hopefully getting a lower penalty.
The cop already gave you a favor. Whether you want to use it fully to your advantage or just accept the responsibiliy and pay the fine is up to you.
