It's made by citizen and the function is called Eco-Drive. It's water resistant to 100meters and it looks better than the acutrons I was looking at. It still needs t be tested for water resistance every few years but no battery changes needed! 2 min of direct sunlight charges it for almost 5 years how sweet is that??

EDIT: It looks exactly the same as their other watches, no goofy lookin panel or anything. The face is the solar panel.

How often do you have to change the batteries anyway? I think I've only had to change a watch battery once after like 2 or 3 years.

Still, if I were to get one without batteries I'd get one that winds itself with the movement of your hand. :)

I looked at those but they don't last nearly as long and they have to be worn to wind. What happend if I forget it in my dorm over christmas cause I was wearing another watch? Anyways I thought it was cool as heck. Now I just need a solar-powered car.

I've had a citizen's eco-drive for almost 3 years now. Only died on me once and that was in winter and I was wearing long sleeves most of the time. Mine is one of the older models that only holds a 2 day charge.

Mine has a titanium band .. I don't think I'll ever consistently wear a watch w/o a titanium band now. It's great.

I bought one in Febuary also. These things are great. I opted for the titanium and water resistant to 200m.

i love my Ti band too. sooo light it almost feels cheap. way more comfortable than the stainless steel fossil doorstop i used to have.

it has a kinetic drive too. instead of winding a spring, it charges a battery that lasts for 6 months. plus, the back window is crystal and you can see the whole drive mechanism and rotating mass. engineers dream!!!

uh 2 mins? initial charges should be for a few hours if it had never been charged before to max it out methinks...

the thing will charge under regular light too, i.e. a desk lamp. i'm wearing a citizen non eco-drive, but i got both of my parents eco-drives, and my bf has one also.

I have a Casio G-Shock solar Waveceptor. I never need a battery and I never have to set the time. The little battery gauge on it only went to "mid" once so far. I've had it about a year and a half.

I like the fact that it automatically turns the backlight on when it's dark and you bring your arm up to look at it.

My watch doesn't even need the sun to keep moving. Only movement.

<---wearing his Seiko Kinetic right now.

I asked the same question. The answer:It doesn't have a battery, well it does have a backup battery that's like a few weeks long but it has a "cell" that holds the solar energy. It's waranteed for 5 years so I guess that means the first charge ought to last me till the warranty runs out...how convenient...

Anyways, the girl (who was hot as ANYTHING) who sold me the watch swore up and down I wouldn't need to bring it in but every couple years to test the water resistance.

My Seiko charges even at night, and has a 4 year battery life on a full charge. I love Kinetic Auto Relay =)

I stopped wearing the Rolex because it only had a 2 day life and I don't go out as much anymore.
