I've never burned an audio CD. Just used my burner for data files and such. Now my g/f wants me to make her some CD's with all of the mp3s she got from Morpheus. My really really dumb question is this...do I need to go out and buy some 'audio' CDs? The ones I use for data won't work?
 
CD blanks are basically the same. The so-called "audio" blanks are merely 80-minute CDs. For copying exisiting music CDs and tapes, the regular 74 minute ones do just fine.
 
So the only difference is 6 minutes of more space on the 'audio' CDs? Other than that, there's no quality issue or anything?
 
Those Audio CDs are really no different from blank data CDs. There's something in there about preventing you from copying stuff or something like that, but I'm not sure. Just get some quality blank data CDs (Fuji's are the best, I hear, but I just use generic brands), and you should be good to go. If your burner can support 80 minute CD-Rs, then get those because you can get an extra 6 minutes of music compared to the regular 74 minutes. You can also get 700 MB of data if you decide to use your blanks for data. Hope this helps.
 
The "audio CDs" have some data on them to allow them to be used on stand-alone CD burners, like you would have in your entertainment system - not in your PC. They cost more $ because there is a "Tax" that is paid to the RIAA (bastards) to "make up for lost record sales". Don't buy them.
