Basically I'm looking for some recommendations on games that have come out since 2006ish. I am pretty into RPGs and any action or action adventure sort of games. Sci fi and stealth games definitely interest me, 2D and 3D platformers too. Not too into RTS or sports games. If games were multiplatform I probably played them on 360 or PS3. The only exception I can think of would be Diablo 3 which I was thinking of picking up, especially with the recent patch and upcoming expansion.

Tell me what you liked!

Some games I've played to save people some time:

Skyrim
Deus Ex: HR
Arkham Asylum/City
Mass Effect 1,2
Dead Space 1,2
Dishonored
Dragon Age
Fear
Kingdoms of Amalur
Sleeping Dogs

It's not out yet, but keep your eyes on Cyberpunk 2077. I don't think it's coming until next year, but keep it in the back of your mind.

Stalker series Download "complete mods" for SOC and CS. Play CS last. Some of the best PC games ever, IMO.
Witcher 1 and 2...W3 coming out this yr
Skyrim Especially if you like or want to get into modding
Painkiller (original) and Return to Castle Wolfenstien Older games but great FSP's

Agree with all the great post suggestions so far. To add, since OP mentioned action games, I highly recommend FEAR (the first one). It's cheap on steam at the moment. Also, the newest Tomb Raider, Spec Ops: The Line, and Metro 2033 are great as well.

Played through almost all these. After suffering through Skyrim on the 360 I can't go back to any Bethesda RPGs for a long time. Have any other D&D-esque games come out other than Dragon Age (I already beat it) worth playing? I know there was the sequel but I read it was pretty bad.

Dear Esther sound neat. Definitely gonna check out Stalker and Metro 2033. Witcher 1 and 2 are only my list as well. I was reading and want to play Path of Exile and try out Eve Online. I've never played MMOs really but it sound pretty fun. Is Guild Wars still worth playing?

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Mass Effect 1 & 2 since you like Sci-fi and no one has mentioned it yet.

If you skipped Fallout 3/NV because of Skyrim, they'll both be much better on PC because of mods. Also, FO New Vegas is an Obsidian game not a Bethesda one.

Besides the above:

Star Wars The Old Republic MMO, but play KOTOR 1-2 first if you haven't already.

TOR free-to-play lets you do the story content without any problems. Spend $5 on "cartel coins" to get Preferred status.

The story content is single-player, and there are 4 class stories for each side (Empire and Republic) = 8 stories. You could play for a year without needing to do the MMO "endgame" / "raid" content. You never need to group with others for optional sidequests unless you want to.

The repetitiveness of exploring the same 2 or 3 castles/caves/crypts in Skyrim for the entire game is what killed it for me. That's what makes me hesitant to play another one.

I did finish KOTOR 1,2 and really enjoyed them. Thanks for the suggestion!

Yea, I was going to suggest KOTOR 1 (especially) and KOTOR 2 as well. Too bad they went the MMO route and never finished up the trilogy. I am sort of in a rut with gaming now, and even though I played a lot, I have been thinking of reinstalling and playing again.
