I got a new monitor...

If anyone is thinking of getting a new 19" LCD monitor and is a gamer...this NEC 90GX2 is amazing. I love it. The best looking monitor I have seen in person. Its actually got the same exact LCD panel as the Samsung 940BF, the difference in price is for a few reasons. You get a cooler looking bezel (silver in my case), you also get a high contrast gloss finish on the screen (not good for VERY lit rooms because of glare, but I have no problems cause I only have one window and its not directly at the computer screen so no glare 😀), you also get a 4 port powered USB 2.0 Hub which is nice too. Looks great with all my games...no ghosting or anything..its nice.

Interesting, I have this LCD too but didn't know that. The 940BF came out almost six months later though. The Opticlear coating is awesome and I got it primarily for office work, for which it works very well, but I can see a lot of ghosting on it and find it almost unusable for many games. I don't have much experience with other recent LCDs though.

I'm with you, cinder. I had the 90GX2 and sold it to get a Dell 2405, which I kept for about a year. I recently sold the 2405 and went back to the 90GX2 because I missed how INCREDIBLE games looked on it. I've tried a LOT of monitors but haven't found one that compares to the NEC GX2 series. Of course, Opticlear is definitely a personal preference and some people don't like the reflective properties. Personally, I love it.

thats a nice bit of info. so if i buy a samsung 940bf (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824001230) i'll get the same picture quality and speed as the NEC. cool

Nope.

Opticlear NEC > any Samsung w/o (aside from higher end ones of course).

But yeah, i too love Opticlear.

I'm seriously considering getting this monitor.

Does the glossyness distract you, or make anything difficult in games? I'm just afraid it won't "be for me".

I don't even notice it anymore. 😉 Buy it from a reputable e-tailer (or local store) so you'll have the option of returning it if it isn't for you. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how incredible it is if you'll take a few days to get used to the coating.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I use my system for gaming 90% of the time and this monitor is perfect for it. Battlefield 2142 looks amazing.

Well, it's a refurb. That's the reason it's so cheap. I would personally stay away from those, as they may be more likely to have dead pixels or other defects given that they have been returned before.

I prefer the 19" cause I can get better frame rates at full res than on the 20" version. Which just means I don't have to spend the extra money for EXTREMELY high end cards.

And about the Samsung 940BF it is the same panel but you lose lots of features...no 4 port USB 2.0 Hub and no OptiClear High Gloss Coating. The coating on the screen really does make the picture and colors incredible. I love it. I would recommend this monitor to anyone, especially those who challenge CRT vs LCD performance. Even they will be impressed. I did a lot of research before buying this monitor and it paid off!!!
