I never knew HPs were so good until a few close friends got them. After that, I was sold :D

HP zd8000
Intel Pentium 4 3.4GHz w/ HT
1GB RAM (533MHz)
ATi x600 256MB
60GB 7200rpm HD

battery life isn't the greatest at ~1.5hrs. its advertised as two, but it isn't nearly. i just use the A/C adapter anyway. enough goodies to last me through four more years of college.

obligitory pic

edit: this was my 6666th post

The ZDs are huge...I prefer the DV8000s but to each his own. Def a desktop replacement.

Where did you get it from?

Nice Desktop replacement.

How much does it weight?

Desktop P4 3.4ghz chip? ouch

I want to say 13 pounds, give or take. it isn't light. yeah, the P4 is a power hog, but hey thats what AC adapters are for :D. as long as its powerful enough to use the internet, watch movies, play music, and use MSN, i'm happy. oh yeah, and CS 1.6 once in a while :)

It was 2100 including the case and the extra A/C adapter. i figure, well this better last me a long time, so i just bought the best of everything available for this model, except RAM and hard drive. they want ~$470 for the 2GB RAM upgrade. no way. plus i use an ATA/USB 2.0 cable on my 200GB hard drive, so i didn't need the huge hard drive either. those were the only things i "kind of" cut corners on.

i didn't get the TV tuner mostly because i have a TV in my dorm. however, i would have gotten it if i hadn't bought a TV the month before :(

my brother bought a dell and it sucked fat weiner. i had a couple other accquintances that owned dell laptops that were garbage. plus they always complained about their customer service. plus i wanted to try a different company for once. i had been a dell man since '02, but, from what i keep hearing from my accquaintances, they are just becoming crappy, poorly built machines. i was wary about HP/Compaq at first, but I made sure not to buy a presario

I'm not the performance junkie I used to be. I don't do enough stuff to utilize such a processor :D

The one is my FS/FT thread here was the 8205us.....not nearly has beefy. I sold the 8230's on ebay.

8205 only has the 3.0 with 512 etc and no TV tuners. The 8230us has the 3.4, 1gb, 100gb, and the dual tv tuner.

Did you check out the Dell XPS 170? I think it cost more than the HP but the spec is pretty good.
