Congrats! Sounds like a pretty sweet job. It's even nicer if you have the opportunity to keep moving up. Have fun!

p.s. if these linux stations are graphical, install waimea ;)

Congratulations! Sounds like a good move. However, you'll have to give up that "fast food discount" that you've been used to. ;)

Sounds like a sweet job! Enjoy it, and do just enough work so that there's always more to do. Guaranteed job security. :)

Good!
Remember to learn as much as you can, be careful about the jealous coworkers, and last but not least, have them pay and get any kind of IT certification... (even the Windows one)
...
Congrats

So what WM/DE are you going to be running on those workstations? ;)

Actually I end up using windows most of the time, redhat desktop is strange and I can't even figure out (yes i looked....oh boy did i look ;)) how to change the window manager. I figure I have better things to do with my time than try to struggle with redhat's (and kde's) funky desktop crap. Plus, I need to use excel sometimes, also samba share mounting isn't setup in redhat (I need them).

99% of my time is spent staring at vim on the debian server in a putty window ;)

A windows computer is not even a computer to me. If I was forced to choose to either admin a windows network, or go back to mcdonalds, I would seriously go back to mcdonald's. Dealing with windows is like pounding my face with a brick. (NO, I'm not exaggerating ;))

I would consider getting the redhat cert though. Overall certifications don't rub well with me. I'm going to college, so qualification should never be a real problem, plus this experience will say alot about how much I know (on a resume, etc). Competent unix admins tend to get by on experience more than anything else. Alot of them don't even go to college..

$7/hr, and it is supposed to go up. Seems low when you consider eveything I'm doing, but I have no formal *anything* regarding computers, only my own nerdy obsessed lifestyle and the local lug. I haven't even finished high school yet.

So basically I get to do something I love, get 10000% better working conditions, and an invaluable experience, and at the same time I get a raise. :)

Then again if you look at all of the stuff I'm doing, you would think I should make more, and that fact is what I will use to get those raises ;)
