I got a Lite-On from suggestions here but have a problem.

My new Lite-on won't read a retail CD I have but my friend's burner at work reads it just fine. It doesn't even show a disc in my drive when I browse the D Drive, any ideas?
 

what's your burner speed/type? mine is working just fine so far (a year). Try to update the firmware, get it from their site. Also, check your IDE cable, i got similar problem with my CDROM back then.

Or, if it's damaged or got errors, return it.
 
Either in control panel or disc manager there is a way to set the property.
Check your jumper setting if it's by itself it is a MASTER
If shared, one is MASTER and the other is SLAVE.
