I got a DMCA violation

I just called my isp about slow internet connection and i had a ticket open for awile and it seems that they said that I have a DMCA violation and for me to call a number. Is this bad?

edit: I just called the number he told me that I got a violation for redistributing a movie i was downloading and I did not get in trouble for downloading it but for sharing it using bit torrent application. It's a relief though that I am not getting sewed or anything I guess this is a stop to my downloading.

edit: and for the record I was using peer guardain and updated when dl just to tell everyone you can get in trouble for downloading.

Pfffft... bloody movie companies and their pull on US ISPs. They can't pull that kind of crap around here in Canada. They shouldn't be able to monitor your Internet traffic like that.

Well, They can all they have to do is ask my isp and my isp gives them the info.

Check your network and your computer for:
1) Unencrypted wifi access
2) WiFi access with encryption that has been broken
3) Trojans on your PC that allow remote control of your PC

Any of these could allow a stranger to access the Internet from your PC or your network and download and share copyrighted files without your knowledge.

Or, then again, you might have just been downloading and sharing movies via BitTorrent. :Q

Not true. Last summer, friend of mine on Sympatico got a cease and desist letter for a movie downloaded via BT.

I had a friend actually get a nice letter from them after he downloaded one movie, Terminator One. Power and control is getting out of hand with entertainment companies.

Note that I DON'T agree with ISP's just handing info over (without a court order, which, imho, should be pretty damn hard to get), nor do I think they are "losing" anywhere near the money they claim.
