I got a call from the Discover Card Fraud Protection Department...

Scarpozzi

I don't have a discover card....neither does my roommate. So they call and leave a message on the machine: "This is the Discover Card Fraud Protection Department.... There has been some suspicious activity on your card and you need to call as back as soon as possible. Please call, 1800-347-3723. We're available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

1. I have no discover card account
2. They never addressed who they were calling about

Should I report this to some law enforcement agency?

They do this all the time (I like that they care about your card - even if they are trying to save their own a$$es too). If you spend a few hundred $ on the same day, they will call you and politely ask if it's really you doing it. They indicate it's an emergency so that you don't think it's just a cold call.

They probably simply made a mistake with the phone number and got you instead.

That actually is the number to Discover Financial Investigations and Fraud Prevention. Checked my Discover statement.

Cool...thanks. I tried checking their website, but couldn't find a fraud dept link easily. I've got friends that got his by some of these fishing callers trying to get credit card and bank account info.

Because they didn't specify who they were trying to contact, it's evident they would have to ask for it when you call...that's what made me suspicious.

call them up, could be indentity theft, someont used your info to open a Discover Card account. So in thier eyes, you DO have a card with them.

The number is legit, so call them and see whats up. Even if it wasnt legit, Id call anyways, just dont give out any info, if you think they have something legit, but are still cautious, tell them to send it to you in the mail, you arent required to give out any sensitive info over the phone.

i have a discover card....sometimes they call me when i charge something big on the card, but i pay it off all the time, it's kind of a weird feeling, like big brother is watching you, but makes you feel safe at the same time i guess

I just applied for a Mortgage Loan. I don't have a discover account as of last week. 😉
