Hi, I want to start a new topic about the 1900xtx, I got it yesterday and I want to know if ATI tools is the best way to overclock, I know I have to put the voltage to 1.4025 but can I put it any higher, and is it useless to overclock 1900xtx or will I see a difference. I already have 11910 points in 3dmark 2005 ! that's an awesome card, I'm getting oblivion game soon and I think this card will kick asses !

Please tell me what overclock you made on your xt or xtx, and has anyone tried water cooling yet ?

have a good day

I have made no overclocking attempts on my X1900XT, and don't need to, as it runs Call of Duty 2 at 1600*1200 with 4xAA and 8xAF.:D I am using stock cooling and it averages at 60C idle and 75-80C load. It's a very good card, IMO.

Damn! Is that really your score on 05 for the XTX? My two 7800GT's get 11999 last time I ran it! Does anyone think I should go ahead and get one or should I wait for G80?

oh, another thing, I'm missing the fDecalLifetime and iMaxDecalsPerFrame settings in my configuration file on Oblivion. I've got everything else. ???

Any help would be awesome.

You have to at least shoot for 12,000 OP!! You're so close! You have some room to up the voltage. 1.475 is safe on air if your temps stay resonable. Would go water if you wanted to push the voltage higher. This is what I read anyway- plenty of peeps hear to yea or nea that idea and have the cards- should be able to give you some tips for the memory OC too.

I disabled ATI Overdrive and use ATI Tool b/c of the ability to control fanspeed. Temps don't go over 60c at load and the fan at 100% isn't that bad imho. But then again, I crank-up my cpu fan speed and where my headset when I game.

I've just bought myself a X1900XT and it's been a poor overclocker so far. I can only push 650 on the core and upto 750 on the memory, can't even reach X1900XTX speeds, what gives? What's more my temps reach 90C at stock clock speeds, is this normal?

I've heard about someone removing the HSF on their card, re-applying some Artic Silver, improving the temps. Is this a good idea? Is it easy enough to do?

Yes it's easy but you void your warranty. If you want to reduce temperatures might as well get an aftermarket cooler. Also not like overclocking to x1900Xtx speeds will make games more playable at higher settings if x1900xt isn't smooth to begin with.

About that temperature, how well is your case ventilated? Mine is an Antec SLK3000B with 2 120mm fans(I'm not sure if one's running or not, I'll assume it's not), so a well ventilated case can make a difference in the heat.

He's already voiding it by overclocking.

Also, I'm not an ATI user (right now), but why wouldn't he see any advantage at xtx speeds? I thought that the xtx performed a little better than the xt stock-wise. If he could get it to basically an xtx, why wouldn't the games be more playable?

Oh, LW07, I've tried unistalling the Oblivion game so I can reinstall it, I get a weird error message. Tried both the games uninstall option and Window's "Add or Remove Programs", nothing works. Should I just manually delete everything that says "Oblivion" on it and see if the disc gives me the option to install when I put it in?

That's what I do when installing games gives me trouble, just manually delete the remaining Oblivion folder and you'll be set. Uninstalling games usually leaves behind some residue in the folder, so go and delete the Oblivion folder.

Okay cool, I was just about to reformat--I've got nothing but overclocking files and games on this rig so it wouldn't be a huge dilema. Thanks, I'll try that and see what happens.

Because real world difference must exceed 10% for a human person to notice. So that means X1900XT must be overclocked to 688 roughly and memory at 1595. Both are beyond X1900XTX speeds. Also this assumes the card scales perfectly linearly which is probably not the case. The overclocks for XTX will be even higher to be noticeable then ==> 650/1550 to 715/1705
