I got a 9700 PRO. A 9800 PRO is not worth it...correct?

According to the reviews the difference in performance wouldn't justify the purchase of a 9800pro if you already own a 9700pro.

Are you sure your FP's native resolution isn't 1024x1280?

It's just incrementally better, you'd be better off overclocking the 9700 pro for free, you'd end up with similar performance.

Not sure what you mean by native.

I use 1024x768 all the time.

i'd say the same as obeseotron.
keep the 9700 pro and just overclock it to near the 9800 pro
it doesnt cost you more money and u'll get close to the same performance

Not exactly.

The 9800 Pro does perform better with AA/AF turned on, just look at the page of UT 2003 of the AT review

Think I will be upgrading to a 9800 pro or 9700 pro next month ( running a GF 4 4400 )

Dell Ultrasharp 17"

See the Dell UltraSharp 17" here.

It states:
Dell UltraSharp 1702FP, 17in Flat Panel LCD Monitor
17'', LCD, Active Matrix TFT, Gray, 1280 x 1024 pixels, 0.26 mm Dot Pitch, Anti Glare with Hard Coating. Analog/Digital connectivity

So your native resolution is 1024 x 1280 pixels. That is the number of pixels you have. Any other resolution requires that the picture is shrunk or expanded. So your best picture should be at the native resolution or 1024 x 1280.

Ferocious, as you have a 17" TFT, then running it at 1024x768, you wont be getting the sharpest image possbile. Run it at 1280x1024, and the image will be far shaper and better looking.
As for the 9700-->9800 upgrade question. Its not worth it. The speed difference is not worth the money over a 9700. The 9700 is very fast how it is.

Yes that is my monitor!

It says 1280x1024 is the maximum....doesn't say native or recommended.

Also.....the text looks so small when I do 1280x1024. And then there is the different ratio.

Maybe I will try it for awhile. But 1024x768 seems like the perfect resolution for a 17".

On a TFT, the maximum is always the native.
If you want the text to be bigger at 1280x1024, then change the text size settings in the display control panel.
