is there a camcorder review site like dpreview for digicams? i'm looking to buy one to film my kid thats due in early december. i have no idea where to start as i have never looked into camcorders before. i know some work as digicams but i have a F717 and that works well enough for me as a camera so i don't need another. i'm guess my budget will be around $5-600 dollars, but i really have no clue if that will get me a decent camcorder or not.

please recommend.

ULTRA HIGH MEGA MANIATIC SUPER DEFINITION SO YOU CAN GET IT ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL😛

Whatever you get, in 10 years, when you are watching it with the family, whether it is in betamax or HD, you will still get slapped over the head for filmign somethign so nasty😀

EDIT:

However, if you are filming everything else such as the reciption room, the surgery room, without the nasty stuff, more power to you...

No need to start research until about November, whatever you research now will be obsolete and unavailable by Christmas.

high def sony🙂

It doesn't record in true HD... it records in 19:9 with rectangle pixels, but in reality its pretty crappy compared to true HD.

In reguards to the OP get a panasonic PV-GS35
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/.../ref=pd_sxp_elt_l1/104-5428467-9827112

Its a decent camera and uses 3CCD technology and records on miniDV, it'll be good for low lighting filming, and general use.

IIRC it still compresses it down to Sony's usual 25Mbps:|
