saw some really freash looking grass fed beef brisket at the store so I grabbed it. I thought i could use it in my slow cooker. Never cooked brisket before, any tips?

I have a Hamilton Beach (Beeyotch to some of you) 6qt slow cooker. What to cook together with the meat? Does it need any liquids to be added?

Put a dry rub on it, put it in the slow cooker by itself with no liquid. If you are adding vegetables, cook them separately and don't cook them fully.

When the brisket is done, pull it out and cover it with foil. Strain the liquid and then put the vegetables in it and heat it up until the veggies just finish. Hack up the beef, add it, serve.

That's if you want to do a stew.

I usually broil mine for 10-20 minutes on each side before throwing it in the crock pot to give it that "bark" on the outside. You definitely need liquid, at least up to half way. I generally go with a mix of beef broth, water, sometimes some Italian dressing, and a little wine, maybe a cup or two.

There was a thread with beef recipes the other day. I can help you bridge the gap:
Put beef brisket in meat grinder. See thread on recipes for hamburger. 🙂 😛

very interesting... how do I know when the brisket is done? or how many hours do you slow cook it for? (assume setting on low right?)

and the way you heat up the vegetables after straining the liquid - this is back in the crock pot right? not on the stovetop
