Tomorrow I'm having nasal surgery to help relieve swelling due to bad allergies. They will be straightening my septum and removing some of my turbinates to open up airflow through my nasal passages.

I'll be doped up for a week or two.

Update 1:

Well, I survived. They gave me some massive doses of Demerol and I have Vicodin to take later.

I was in a LOT of pain when I woke up. But a second 100mg shot of Demerol helped that and made me pass out.

There is a lot of bleeding, and I have a bandage strapped under my nose to soak up what the packing does not. It's been changed more times than I can count.

This is VERY painful, but not as bad as tonsils.

BTW, the doctor found out my adenoids either grew back, or I have a tumor back there. He sent out a sample of it for a biopsy.

update 2:

This thing is still bleeding. I'm starting to worry a bit here. I have to change the folded 4x4 gauze gressing every couple of hours or it drips. :Q

update 3:

I went in to the Dr at 8:00AM today to have my nose unpacked. He decided to wait until Monday to unpack it because of the bleeding.

The bleeding has slowed, but it hasn't stopped yet.

update 4:

I had the packing removed today. I honestly believe this was the most pain I have EVER felt (ever see Total Recall?). But it was a great relief once it was done.

I had been sneezing every time I swallowed with the packing in, and the pain was horrible. Now I can swallow without irritating my nose and sneezing.

Removing the packing was a horror show, with all the clotting and blood coming out with it. And there is no way they can numb you up beforehand.

Oh well, I think I'll go pass out now.

Whoa - for a second there I read it as "Anal Surgery" :Q

Anyway, I think I want to make an appointment with a doctor about the same problem. I have very little air flow throughout my nasal cavity, despite having some pretty big nostrils.... :p My sinuses are constantly clogged, and I almost always have a stuff nose everywhere I go. It's so bad that I have been forced to breathe out of my mouth for almost all of my life, I don't even try to breath through my nose....

My allergies are almost as bad. I can only breathe through one nostril. Also, I will be making a similar thread December 18th. I go in for surgery on my Achilles Tendon then. Good luck.

Good luck, Amused. :)

I have a deviated septum; comes from having my nose busted twice and me straightening it out myself.

I get almost no air thru my right nostril...a real PITA when working out...or running for my life or what have you. I will wait until the next time it gets busted, then I'll have it fixed.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone! :)

It's coming up on the time I have to stop all food and water (midnight). I'm going to have a large double scoop protein shake and a huge glass of water at 12.

moshquerade,

No, it's not a nose job. They won't be adjusting the outer bones, only the septum. My nose looks straight anyhow.

you will be doped up for about 4 hours tommorrow, then you will go home on vicodin or percocet as you need them for pain... its not that huge of a surgery

I'm basically going to have to have my nose reshaped surgically because I've broken my nose too many times...Shattered sinus and everything - cant even breathe through my nose. I know how you feel. Good luck, my friend.

I have a full bottle of vicodin from an earlier injury floating around. Plus, I plan on asking for some good stuff tomorrow.
