so i purchased their lifetime maps off their website for $89.99. after installing it, i find it on Amazon for $64.95. I called CS and asked if they could refund the difference. they said NO. :( that is horrible customer service right there. i am selling my Garmin and going with a TomTom.

For future reference, manufacturers usually won't undercut the prices of retailers who carry their product. So it helps to check sites like Amazon first.

Why do they care if you sell it and get a TomTom? They probably already got all of the money they will ever get from you.

why shouldn't they? i feel cheated. they fact that i wasted my time speaking with them they should have given me the credit. should i send my dilemma to the consumerist?
No, a million businesses operate this way, often a distributor is cheaper than the direct, or vice versa.

What makes your time so valuable that they should give you the credit just for having to talk to them? Who do you think you are?

Think of it as a stupid tax, next time you should have shopped around. Amazon would have no incentive to get product from Garmin if Garmin is going to match or undercut the price that Amazon would sell it at.

Should Apple refund customers who buy a macbook pro from them because amazon sells them cheaper than even Apple's education discount? Why should Garmin?

Garmin lifetime maps are worth up to $40ish on a GPS that doesn't have them. Otherwise, you're better off getting a new unit that includes the lifetime updates from the start.

You buy something and then found it cheaper? Tough crap, should have done your pricechecking before hand. Rant 0/10

Garmin>Magellan>TomTom.

Anyone who has ever used their GPS system know. :hmm:

Granted its been 3 years since I last relied heavily on a GPS but I completely agree. We had the worst luck with the Tom Toms and the best luck with Garmins

Two incidents with Tom Tom stick with me. One was where it took me way out of the way to get to an address and the other was "Make a right turn, then make another right. Now make a right turn."

Thats a fucking left turn Tom Tom. I could have just gone left at that 4 way intersection. Thanks

TomTom announced they are exiting the GPS hardware business. They are concentrating on selling their services to be integrated in other's devices. Like smartphones, integrated factory automotive systems, aftermarket, etc.

Enjoy having some pretty bad driving directions. TomTom comes up with some of the most hairbrained routes.

I'll be sure to avoid using any built-in nav system that uses TomTom.

You guys are getting trolled.

stay on topic, troll.

and those advocating using smartphones.....please. cell phones provide spotty coverage and use up too much of my 'unlimited' data plan. it is not a viable solution. i have my gps on at all times. i will look into magellan.

You decided that $89.99 was a fair price at the time, so why do you feel cheated? It's your own fault you didn't find the best price first.

Haha, I get google navigate doing that to me sometimes. I don't complain because it's free though.

you must be joking, just because one store sells it less doesn't obligate another to match the price, let alone if you get it from the manufacturer.

how about you bitch about the price of servicing your car at the dealer.

Exactly. If you didn't comparison shop it's your fault. It's not like Garmin tried to force you to buy from them.
