Discussion on the LAST Focus recall:)

http://autoweek.com/cat_content.mv?port_code=autoweek&cat_code=carnews&loc_code=index&content_code=01627685

<< WASHINGTON - Federal safety officials are investigating 2000-01 Ford Focus cars to determine whether a fuel tank defect causes them to begin stalling after owners have driven about 30,000 miles.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said it suspects that some material from the tank's interior collects on a pump screen and cuts off fuel.

The agency said unexpected hesitation or stalling is a safety hazard. The agency said it is aware of 72 complaints, seven involving crashes. About 575,000 vehicles are in service.

Are they having any of these problems with the Focus AT ALL in Europe?
Perhaps it's just a N.A. production problem.

What happens if you make 600,000 lemons? I mean the lemon-laws give you a replacement vehicle if they can't fix it. What if every single vehicle is a lemon and continue to develop problems? Could you get a total refund?

They had a similar recall on the Taurus/Sable line about 8-9 years ago.

The engineers must have been having very bad days when they designed the first Focuses.

Hopefully, they have eliminated this crap in the new ones.

Looks like the first 2 year models will be haunting Ford for a long time to come.

Reminds me of the Contour.

I have a British built Focus.
It was first registered in Jan 99 has never been recalled, I have had no problems with it and know a few other people who have got Focuses (focii?) and none of them have had any problems.

In the UK the Focus sells 40% more than any other car, I don't think that would be the case if they had all the problems I have been hearing about with the American ones.

Yeah, sort of........but I had a '98 Mystique that had lots of problems and recalls. Ford should have had all the bugs worked out by then but they didn't.
