after purchasing 2 sunon highout put fan, i simply was not getting good enough airflow in my system. I really do not want invest anymore money in fans to cool a cheap overclocked system. I was running 44c idle temp's with my duron with the case closed with the 1 fan setup as intake and 1 fan setup as exhaust as well as the ps setup as the exhaust. the intake fan is an 80mm high output which is LOUD as all hell. I just got sick of this crap and unplugged all the fans, and opened the case and stuck a small desk fan on low in front of it. This was my previous setup and now I am running at 37-38c idle temperatures...now this is more like it. Apart from a small rat going into my case or dust...i think this is a better solution for now. I just dont see myself spending 50+ bucks on fans total to cool a cpu that is the same price. ok im just ranting....

sounds like a moron idea.
In case you've noticed, CPU prices do not scale linearly with speed. And they don't sell Durons at 980MHz, you have to overclock them to that. Duh.

The main reason to have a good cooling setup is so when you buy your next CPU it'll be cool and easily overclockable as well! It's an INVESTMENT, not a quick solution. Plus, it's fun.

moron idea? I ran my p3-500 with the case open with a desk fan for over a year. Its actually quieter than using case fans. It ran fine and it still runs fine. DUH? I know you have to overclock a duron to get 980. What the hell do you think i did to get mine to 980?

Sounds like that would be a dust collector. How often did you have to clean that thing?

Tell you the truth i never had to clean it. There was a lot of dust in the PS but im guessing thats normal. I kept that pc running 24/7 as it was also a sygate server for my house. Never had a problem. I will sell the sunon highoutput 80mm fan for 5 bucks plus 1.50 shipping and handling via paypal or payplace to whoever wants it. first to reply to this post gets it. Just be warned it has a dba rating of 36.5 i believe and its kinda loud in my opinion. Its 8.50 on 2cooltek and i only used it for 2 weeks so far. I think ill keep the silent 80mm sunon for now.

cool that you like your setup, but most people like to keep their cases closed. most people also like to save on space, and so a desk fan next to their comp is not good for them. i don't give a s*it if you keep your casse open or not, but i think that case fans really are an investment since systems generally keep getting hotter and hotter with bigger/more heat sinks and fans/case mods then ever before. even the oems are modding their cases with ventilation holes and more heatsinks.

more fans and better ventilation and increased airflow are not the same thing.

I used to run my computers with the side case open until I looked inside one day and found more dust on my cards etc then there was under my bunk in the army. There was so much dust inside accumulated in a six month time frame that I started sneezing when I tried to clean it. I guess the ammound of dust depends on where you live and if you have pets. At the time I had two dogs and a cat. I am running the "Delta Black Label" fan everyone says is noisy on my heatsink and am adding about $50 worth of fans to my case this week. The "Delta" doesn't bother me one bit. I guess what bothers some doesn't bother others.

Damn $50 on Fans alone?? Jez, I went Water cooling route, much Quieter,
Much more efficient than all those damn Fans, it can be used later on
when I update my CPU, and best of all, it keeps my Idle Temps AT Ambient
temp... Full Load temps at the moment go up to Case Temps, which even
with the case open are about 10 Degrees higher....

I did spend more than $50 on a Water rig, but it's over time and like
ConspiracyRaven mentioned, it's an Investment... I don't plan on doing
it again...

BTW, have you tried "Blow holes" or are you still using Factory positions??

either your temp settings are wrong, or your fans are screwy... or it's just in a warm environment. And if you want loud, you should have heard my 120mm fan I had.. heh...

BTW, where did you get that $50 pricetag from? that's about 5 fans or so..... which you wouldn't really put in your system.. unless you're a case nut (like the rest of us :p)

And if you're counting the price of the CPU fan, you shouldn't. That's to cool the cpu.. the other fans are to keep the rest of your system in check.

And if you think 44C is hot.. i hate to see what the temp in those small HP's and the like.. they cram everything together in those things.
