i get this weird pop up **NOW WITH PIC**

it some app pop up that says an advertised program has finished running, then somthing about reseting my computer?


is there some kinda spyprog i can run without installing? i dont have admin rights on this pc so i cant install anyting. i want to search for spyware but cant.

Are you on some sort of network?

I am assuming yes, and if so, the Advertised Programs Monitor basically means under normal circumstances that someone in IT has "pushed" an update to your system by use of SMS...

That is normally configured with your client system set to poll the System Management Server at a specified interval and unattend install any required updates.


Edit: dammit, iamwiz82 beat me by a few mins... :eek:

There was a virus that was running around earlier this year that caused this. My in-laws had it on their pc. Blaster, maybe? Get rid of the virus then patch your machine from the windows update site.

We get those all the time here too but they look a bit different. Of course it could be some sort of virus that masquerades as an SMS window I guess....

i am at work. using their network.


i looked in my control panal and there are 2 icons there. advertised programs and advertised program monitor.

so... i think this is what is cuasing it?

Call your local help desk and they can explain it to you. But Yes, that's what it is. That's how companies roll out updates, patches, etc.
