I get that spiders are good and kill other bugs, but how many is too many?

Bought a new house in January. No sign of spiders during any of the presale walk through/inspections. No sign of spiders all winter. But 2 weeks ago there was on hanging at right at face level from a light fixture in the kitchen. The cat managed to reach it and scared it off.

But in the last week we have seen 5-7 of what I believe to be jumping spiders based on looks and Google research. That just seems like a lot to me. I figure if we are seeing that many, then there are even more we aren't seeing. But with them most likely being jumping spiders who actually hunt their prey, maybe its normal to see them more often as opposed to spiders that tend to stay hidden near their webs. Below is a picture of a jumping spider(at least according to google)and that is pretty much what they have all looked like. They aren't venomous, so I am not worried about that. But I figure if there are a whole lot of them in the house, then how is that any better then having a bunch of bugs in the house. Any spiders experts know if its normal to see this many spiders in a weeks time?

Rainy lately in your neck of the woods? I think spiders tend to come out more when it's rainy.

depends on a number of things:

where you live
the size and type of house
weather

they could have been hiding from winter.
they could have followed their food source into your house.
you may have a serious issue with sealing your house.

if their food source is gone they will die off soon.

spiders are fine outside... once they're inside they are trespassing and I will defend my home as I see fit

I have tons of spiders., and leave them alone. I've been protecting one in the kitchen sink for a few days now, trying not to wash him down the drain. I'll have to relocate him soon. I need to wash his protective cover.

Make sure you get behind his ears.

Lol, love some of these posts. Don't get me wrong, even though I said in the title I know spiders are good, I have killed all of them I have seen with the exception of the one the cat let get away. Hence the reason I know I have seen 5-7 and not just 1, 5-7 different times.

We did have an ant problem for some reason that we can't figure out, since we don't leave messes or dirty dishes in the sink or anything that I would think would attract ants. Although I suppose they may be after the cat food if he doesn't eat it all at once. We took care of the ants with some vinegar, but I suppose the spiders could have been following the ants.

Haven't seen any new ones in a couple days so maybe I got the majority of them. If not I am sure the shrill cry of my girlfriends scream will alert me to any new ones.

Just spray around the outside of your house's foundation and make sure no trees or bushes are touching your house. Killed off most of our spider and ant problems.

I have an agreement with the spiders at my house. If they stay in my wooded backyard away from the deck, they get to live. If they invade the deck, the porch, or the house, it's dying time.

As long as they stay off the kitchen table or my bed I'm alright with them. I'll move them otherwise.

One always gets a nice web going by the front door, and catches most of the mosquitoes that come in there. thanks spiderbro.

1 is too many. Have your house sprayed inside and out to kill off their food, then they'll move on.

I have mine done every year and the only bugs I ever see are dead.

Too many...

Not a single spider in that picture. Lots of Opiliones though. I don't mind spiders myself, but have been forced to kill a lot of them by an ex that was terrified of them. Lots of people with irrational fear of them, that's for sure.
