I get stuttering in COD: WaW sometimes....my vid card?

It almost feels like my video card is running out of memory for buffering. Is the 320MB of ram on my 8800GTS limiting me? The rest of my specs seem fine.

I'm thinking of upgrading my video card soon, good idea?

You'll definitely benefit from a beefier GPU with more VRAM, that 320MB version really started showing its limitations not too long after its release. If you're upgrading now, I'd also recommend avoiding similar problems with your new card, so if you can afford it I'd check out a GTX 260 for $160. If you're looking at the $200-$250 range you'd want to look at the 1GB 4870 or GTX 260 core 216.

GPU Scaling in WaW

Keep in mind WaW also benefits significantly from CPU speed, so while you will definitely see an increase in performance your CPU is still going to bottleneck you relative to faster processors out there:

CPU Scaling in WaW

Your 5600+ is somewhere between an X2 5000+ @ 30FPS and an X2 6400+ @52FPS, so if you feel your FPS are still low or sluggish then you'll want to upgrade your CPU next.

Thanks Chizow, i'm planning on upgrading to a Phenom II when it's out. And i think i'm leaning towards a GTX 260 as an upgrade for the vid card. :)

I guess it really depends on what resolution and how much AA. I think @ 1280x1024 it's still a formidable card long as you keep the AA to 2x.

I get the same thing with my 8400 setup in sig.

I turned up my MipMap quality in CCC to full quality and texture quality to Extra (ingame) and it seemed to smooth a little; but it doesn't make sense cause that was an increase in overall image quality...

I'm thinking its a VRAM buffer thing too...

btw, the 4870 i have is the 512 version

The only time I get any stuttering is when someone is ripping the flamethrower while we are playing zombies.

Try turning off AA and see how it does for you. Original COD4 had no problems considering this is the same engine it should run about same

Yeah, that's what's weird, i had none of these issues with COD4 at all with 4x AA!

I've tried turning off AA altogether and it looks awful :(

I have to have at least 2x AA.
