I get bad FPS w/V3!

I have a K6-2 400, 96MB SDRAM, Gigabyte Ga-5ax & Voodoo3 w/latest drivers. For some reason, I get bad FPS with my video card. In QuakeII, demo1.dm2, with the best tweaking results:
640x480 37.2
800x600 37.4
1024x768 37
1280x960 36.2

W/o tweaking, around 26-30fps for above all, depending on mode selected.

QuakeII, cruser.dm2:
1024x768 15.8

I should get at least 70-80fps at 640x480, but I am no where near that no. I also have the same problem with Q3(stuck around fps) and Elite Force Demo. Direct 3D also has same problem(only 80fps Forsaken Mark 1024x768). What the heck is going on?

For Quake II you need to download the 3dnow optimised driver for the game to get maximun framerates. Go here to get it, http://www.amd.com/products/cpg/k623d/drivers.html

For Quake III and other games, well I hate to say this but your K6-2 400MHz is about as fast as a Celeron 333MHz so low framerates (by today's standards) are expected. No other games that I know utilize the full potential of AMD's 3dnow like Quake II.

Even in AnandTech's review, a K6-2 300 gets 36fps at 800x600 w/MiniGL Drivers. When I use them and benched them at same res, I get 17fps!

Which Vidcard makes a big difference. I dunno what box Anand benched QIII with a K6-2/300. I do know that my K6-2/300 with a Riva 128 4 Mb Vidcard got me a stellar 31 fps in QII.

Anand bench marks with sound off. That would make a difference in a cpu limited setup such as yours.

I heard of great speed results with the Wicked GL drivers. If you are daring and thirsty for speed, you can give those a try.
