My laptop picks up an "excellent" wireless signal in my room and it says it's connected to it, but when I open Internet Explorer it can't open any sites.

Is this signal restricted even though it says I'm connected to it?

It probably has WEP or WPA enabled. You can get a signal without the WEP/WPA key, but it won't allow you to do anything.

If you were using XP SP2, you would see pretty easily if it is a WEP, WPA or unencrypted network.

Yeah, well I thought I would give him the benefit of the doubt :)

And if he is, he probably won't get too far.
