i switched to verizonwireless a few days ago, picked a nokia 6215i since my online research showed that as getting the best signal, best speaker quality/no static when the volume is maxed out, even on speaker phone. it even gets signal in elevators below ground in a basement (good enough for me). However, this damn phone has a screensaver that turns on after 5-7 preset seconds when you don't press any buttons on the phone, it can't be disabled, can't be changed for the screensaver to take longer to turn on, and only the stupid screen savers can be changed to a different screen saver. thats it. The user manual does not even mention screensaver anywhere in the documentation. in addition to that my phone cant do an alarm for the alarm clock (sometimes it will vibrate for the alarm but rarely) in "vibrate" for the master volume. it wont even vibrate on incoming calls when the master volume is set to alarm only. so its either or even though both calls and alarm are set to vibrate, but the master volume over-rides what ever is specified individually. and the user manual for the phone says the alarm goes off every 10 minutes. my alarm went off every 5 minutes when the master volume is set to "alarm only", at 610 615 620 625 this morning driving me nuts. wtf is wrong with this thing? if master volume is set to "vibrate" the alarm does not go off, it just lights up saying alarm (how freaking useless). getting calls to show on the front screen for caller id is wierd too. i think after 10 characters, it chops off the name so i have no idea who is calling, just a rough guess.

who else uses verizon? what phones are there that get excellent signal, can increase the volume of the speaker in speaker phone mode? get about 2 hrs of use time (the nokia 6215i gets i think 2:35, and several days of standby mode, which it goes into after not using the phone for 30 seconds (looks like its off unless i open it to see the time again) along with a camera in the phone (no real need for me, but i like the idea since turning off the flash and the backlight and with volume makes it impossible to know when this phone takes a picture :D)

Check out http://www.howardforums.com for help with your current phone.

I just got an LG VX8300 and I really like it. Signal is good, volume is good. The phone is sturdy and easy to use. I ran the battery down completely the night I got it, then charged it all night. Since Friday of last week, it's been unplugged and I've had about 2 hours of calls on it. I have half a battery showing on the graph right now.

It has a video and still camera, but I don't see myself using the video camera much. I bought a 1GB miniSD card from newegg for extra storage. I put some MP3 ringtones on it with my data cable and they sound great (gotta have the Bond theme as my ringer, of course ;)).

I've always had LG phones and I've always been happy with them. They're one of the more "hackable" phone brands from Verizon, like I said earlier, Howard Forums is a really good resource.

The sound quality is much better than my VX6100. It's funny, because I'll be making calls and the sound is so clear, I think the call has been dropped, so I have to check the screen to see if it has been or not.

I can't speak for the speakerphone, I haven't had the phone long enough to use it. It didn't come with a belt clip, so I'm waiting on one in the mail. I usually clip my phone to the visor in the car and use the speakerphone that way, although I'll probably pick up a bluetooth headset eventually.

The girl at the Verizon store said the VX8300 was an excellent choice. She didn't say the same about the Motorola my buddy bought. It's got a lot of bells and whistles, but for everyday phone stuff, it seems like a really nice phone.

I read through the manual and it did seem kind of useless. Verizon must re-write them or something, because it's not very helpful. I don't remember what I was trying to find but the manual was no help at all.

i have a useless manual for the phone already and verizon knows only what the manual says about a phone when someone calls about a phone. i called nokia and they said the screensaver cant be turned off, it cant be changed to take longer to start either. googling it gives random posts in forums with people saying the screensaver cant be turned be turned off too. nokia basically told me, the phone is what it is, it cant be changed at all, get a different phone then. lol.

hmmm the vx8300 sounds good from what you said and what verizonwireless' website details. did you say you can connect it to a pc with a data cable to transfer stuff such as mp3s for ring tones?? if so, thats cool, and you can transfer the pics off too that way? where do i get such a data cable, did you need any software to do it?
