I gave a great tip for great service

NO, this is not a parody thread.

So 4 of us eat sushi. All get soybeans, miso soup, and hot green tea. We get 3 sushi rolls with fish ($8-9$9 each on menu) and 1 vegertian roll ($5? on menu). We are at the bar and talking to the chef just shootin the breeze with him asking him all sorts of questions b/c it was 2 of the people's first time there. By now we put the menus away so I don't konw the cost of things. The chef makes these special tempura battered fish something (4 of them, probably 2-3 inches long so not huge) with sauce and stuff. We talk a while longer. He then makes us 3 sashimi style items of eel for dessert (again 2-3 inches long). Then we talk more about some of the more strange items. So he makes 3-4 bites of sushi roll with octopus in it b/c we were wondering if it was chewy. Then makes orange umbrella looking things for dessert.

Bill = $35 only and there were 4 of us....how much would you tip?

10-15, but I overtip usually

I'll wait for more replies until I say what I tipped. I was kind of torn b/c I didn't want to spend so much there over my budget and all the things he made for free for us were awesome but technically I never ordered them or expected them so really shouldn't have to pay for them. However I wanted to show my appreciation for he friendliness and great service so I wanted to tip well. I think the best thing I can do is spread his name around when people ask about sushi and be sure to go back with more friends.

Well once i had great service at a restaurant (friends and I went) My bill came to $32 all I had was a $50 so I said keep the change

I'd say it depended on the type of service as well.

I'd say tip 20% if they have any idea about how to normally tip, they will know it is a generous offer.

They just gave you lots of $$$ worth of sushi and only charged you $35 - I would've tipped 15-20 to show my appreciation. Sounds like you had a good time.

Had our work xmas party this past Monday at another fancy golf club. Got 2 drink tickets each. I used my two up quickly, then managed to get more than a few more off of other people (boss etc...) so I "bought" myself an additional $30 worth of drinks and prolly $15 more for other people too. When I went up for the last one, I tipped the bartender $20. He was happy, he'd made me drinks all night, and I had at least $30 in drinks just to myself anyways.

The standard tip for restaurant is around 15 to 20 percent. If you have great service, it will be UP TO YOU to decide how much is worthwhile.

I never ate sushi so I don't know how much they are. I ate at a nice steakhouse with a few friends and the service was fabulous and I tip the waistress 50%.
