You'll have a great overclocking processor and the motherboard to match, one of the better graphics cards, and plenty of extra psu to help keep things stable. Guess what...all your programs are gonna run faster.

It is a good point that with the impending release of all this new tech the prices of existing tech will probably go down a bit in the near future, but make no mistake you should see a VERY solid performance improvement over your old system. I say if the price didn't prohibit you from making the order and you got the parts you wanted then you made the right choice.

Not getting ripped off, but getting ripped a new a$$hole. $1,000 is a lot of money to spend upgrading his current system.

That's completely subjective. $1,000 is not a big expense for an upgrade to me.

Being ripped off is paying more than retail, or marginally more than something is worth.

He got what he wanted, at Suggested Retail (less for some parts). Whether or not $1,000 is too much is completely up to him.

If it does what he needs it to do, then he got an excellent deal and he will be pleased with his system.

and people say $600 or whatever for a PS3 (which probably won't cost that much) is expensive. $1000 just for the core components to play games with a 5fps gain...

Yea, and in my opinion, he's getting ripped.

Don't open that can of worms.

First of all, consoles and PCs are two totally different animals.

Second of all, consoles, particularly the X360 and the ones to come, are only as good as the TV you play them on, and HDTVs are not cheap.

Ahh yes because the mark of any quality game is how it looks. Sorry but I prefer a good quality game that has great gameplay.
