i just fvcking lost every picture i had from the last few years. i had a folder with all my important stuff on the main computer. my moms bf told me i needed to move it to my computer because it was taking up too much space. so i put it on mine and told him that it can NOT get deleted no matter what. well guess fvcking what?! it was there yesterday, now there are only a few files and theyre useless. whatever, i can always just go back to all of the important events in my life and retake the pictures right?!

(sorry for venting im just really pissed off and sad right now.)

btw, this has something to do with it im sure. but it was all fine and dandy and then he had to go fvck with it again today.

He deleted it off your computer? Huh.

Try a data recovery program like OnTrack's EasyRecovery, if possible. I don't know if there's a trial for it or what...

Edit: Oh, the deletion is clarified... And yeah, Norton Utilities would be the better choice I guess, since it has a trial. :p

You shouldn't hate computers; you should just learn more about them before you trust what you consider priceless data to them.

Why haven't you burned these to disk prior to all this? If they were that important I would have backed them up long ago.

I don't let anyone but me and myself use my computers. Call it anal retentive or whatever, but because of this I have never a) gotten a virus, b) ad/spyware, c) been hacked, d) lost valuable data, etc....

i did back them up long ago. thats the point. LONG ago. its my fault for not backing them up, but there is no reason they should be gone. file recovery programs cant seem to find them on any of my hard drives or on the main computer that they were on before. oh well.

Yeah, undelete programs work.

they wok because your computer doesnt delete stuff. In simple terms it hides it, and tags it to be ver written. Files dont get ovewritten that fast, so the files that you delete are still there.

I think you can do this through DOS, or at least you used to.

Yeah, undelete programs work.

they can work if you don't overwrite the stuff. norton works best if it was installed to begin with and so norton recycling bin is installed.

RAID.

or constant backups. never trust a mechanical spinning disc with stuff.

1 - Install a copy of OnTrack's EasyRecovery

2 - Password-protect your login account and set the permission on your folders so that only you and the Administrator account can have access to them (Admin account is used as a backdoor. Password protect it!)

3 - Get a CD burner and some CDRW discs. Burn monthly backups of your important files. Hit the Hot Deals forum if you want to save some cash.

Optionally, if you are into porn, install a copy of Window Washer. It clears your track (can be set to do so whenever u shutdown the PC). :) Also, consider sharing your *media* collection with friends. They make great offsite backup.

Of course you need to be running Windows NT, 2000, or XP to use the second tip.

It's threads like these that make me truly appreciate being handy with computers.

I hate to rely on the competence of others when it comes to MY stuff. Be it my car, my PC, whatever.

Haha, so true. Unfortunately girls/women often suffer from computer illiteracy.
