WTF!..I have those same exact dreams

Same here...it really does freak you out in your dreams like it's the end of the world. Your heart drops to your stomach, your knees get weak, you start shaking (all in the dream of course) when you realize "oh sh!t, I haven't been to this class all year and my final is tomorrow"

Then you wake up knowing it wasn't real and you like the damn happiest person alive.

Luckily I didn't fail, but my 98% turned into a C- after that. If it would have been a D or lower, I'd have had to re-take the class!

I did exactly the same thing in a summer course. I decided to skip the second to last class because I wasn't in need of a review session for the class. So I show up to the next class ready to take the final, but there's no one in the room. I'm thinking to myself, well this is really weird. After a few minutes of sitting around and no one showing up, I decide to walk up to the professor's office.

He's sitting in there grading papers when I walk in. I ask if the final was happening today and he tells me no because the final was a take home that was given out last class. Boned! On top of this, he wasn't happy that this was the third class I had skipped and he felt it right to fail me. I won't get started on my views of class attendance, but suffice to say, I don't believe it should be a determinant of pass/fail status in a class. Maybe a small component, but not the sole basis.

Anyway, after a few moments he ends up allowing me to take the test.

I used to go to class and realize it was halfway through the semester and I had never been.

I was once asked at the midterm by another student "you're still in this class? I haven't seen you since the first day!"

Still graduated with honors in my major and a 3.2. Just had to bust ass for the two years that I wasn't fall-down drunk.

LOL, I wonder how common it is. Time for a poll ...

I think it's common...I still have it sometimes and I graduated in '95.

Wow, that really sucks. This can't happen at Ohio State, and I'm a little surprised to hear it happens at other schools. Midterms, quizzes, etc. can be changed, but all final exams are scheduled by the university. This avoids anyone having finals that overlap if two prof's were to pick the same day and time to have their final and you were in both courses. It is possible to have a final early, however the prof. has to show up and give the final at the scheduled time as well.

Have you tried talking to your academic advisor? Can't hurt...

You should be able to go talk to the registrar. Maybe they can do something for you.

I will go talk to them, but since I go to UC Berkeley, chances are their going to be bureaucratic PITA's... i mean, i'm sure they hear this 100 times a day... its so easy to say no. =(

bring evidence that you requested a P/F with you.

If you don't have evidence...you really need to keep records of EVERYTHING next time.

He didn't bother to request a Pass Not Pass, he just forgot to do it.

Haven't read all the replies, but can you retake it next semester and replace the grade?

At my school it's only when you get a C- or lower..

LOL i use to get all those recurring dreams too. But once i went back to school to finish my degree, they went away. It was just my unconscious telling me to finish what i started... and feeling regret that i didn't.

What's amazing is that your dream is a closer metaphor for Preparing for Life than some classes ever will be.

Me too. I still remember clearly the awful feeling those dreams gave me and that was many years ago.

I once studied all night for an exam the next day in a European History class. Went in the next morning feeling very confident until the exams were passed out and I realized they had nothing to do with what I had been studying. Our professor never discussed the upcoming exams since he always went by the exam schedule on the syllabus. This exam was on a couple of books we were supposed to have read on our own about King Louis XIV or XVI which I had not read yet and the exam I had studied for was the next one on the list that was on lecture notes. I didn't say anything, but the professor saw me just sitting there staring at my blank blue book and came over and asked what the problem was. I told him and he asked me if I could go look over the two books and come to his office in a few hours and take the test. I did, got a B on it, and signed up for his classes every chance I got from then on.

When you sign up for a class don't you have to check a box on the registration form for pass/no pass? If you did it seems that it might help you to take it with you when you go plead your case. They'll probably still say that you should have known better, but you never know, somebody may take pity on you like my professor above did.
