I could do a well executed rant but I'm not on wifi so there is no urge.. I'm trying to get my friend to run an ethernet wire to his room and he doesn't want to... He plans on gaming with wifi... I'm sorry but after having wifi for 3 months+ I'll never use it again unless I'm at a cafe etc...

Where am I? Is this Networking? I though I was in Off Topic?

Wait a minute, goku has 4798 posts in 2 years? Aaah, must be one of those who live their life in ATOT and doesn't realize there are other categories in this forum...

My wifi is fast enough for games. It's faster than a cable connection is anyway.

It's not the bandwidth that matters, it's the latency and the reliability...

No problems in those areas either.

it's completely dependant of your confguration and your physical envirmoment and conditions...

oh, and try running a high-use fileerver on wireless with multiple clients;)

i was gonna do wifi for my roomate and use the wired ports on the dlink router for my comp but decided instead to just get a 50 foot ethernet cable from neweggs for 12 bucks instead of spending 75 bucks (stili could have gotten rebates) on wireless :)

I play CS:S over 802.11g and have zero issues - ping is usually 15-20 for nearby servers. I'll always take hard-wired over wireless if both are an option, but the place I'm living now it would require an incredibly long and annoying cable run to get to my PC from the cable modem in the living room.

extra-long cable pwns that! You just have to deal with the cable

If it were faster, I'd just do wifi. Right now I have a long cable running from the living room to my bedroom because the only cable jack in the apartment is right next to the front door.
