So last night I went to see Zodiac, which was a decent movie. As soon as I stepped in to the theater I knew it was going to be a long night, based on the crowd at the theater. Needless to say, every time a character got killed or something dramatic happened, people in the theater started laughing like it was funny and started a ruckus. The chatter and loud talking lasted throughout the ENTIRE 2 1/2 hour film, there were some people on their cellphones while others were trying to make funny comments every other scene. I can't comprehend how people could have so little respect for others, that is probably why I rarely see "popular" movies in the theater when they come out... What a joke.

While the blame is ultimately the individuals who do these things, the theaters need to be more strict. If they actually patrolled their theaters and warned, then booted people, people would have a much greater respect for the rules.

When I was a kid if you caused any ruckus at all, you were asked to leave... and no refund was given. If you made a stink, they called your parants... which was a worse fate than calling the cops.

At any rate, this is why I have a very nice home theater now. And why if I ever do go to the movies, it's after it's been out for a week or two and a weekday matinée.

Agreed... Also when 20%+ of the people watching the movie are part of the problem, you can create a much larger problem for everyone if you report it, you never know how these maniacs could react
 
Give the ushers super soakers filled with rat urine.

Point directional speakers at them and blast them with LRAD signals.

Or a water alarm that sounds like a dripping faucet!

Yeah, I've pretty much given up on theaters. The last few times they've had the projectors slightly out of focus (just enough that it really bugs your eyes).

The cost here has stayed pretty level ($7.50 per adult after 5, $5.50 before) and they have renovated several of the theaters (DLP projectors, upgraded sound system, better seating), but it's still not worth the hassle of the other people and the comfort you can get at home.

Eventually we will probably have movies on demand, with home theater systems matching the very best movies theaters..
 
That's why I don't go to movie theaters any more. Just get a nice big HDTV and wait for the movies to come out on DVD/HD-DVD/Blu-Ray.
 
This is the exact reason i see the earliest showing possible for that day. All the loud people seem to flock to the evening showings.

Yesterday, I saw Ghost Rider at 1:15pm. There were only 10 people (no juveniles) in the theatre total. Maybe it was because it was so early, maybe it was because the movie sucked. I don't know. What I do know is the acting was horrible and I want my 2 hours back!

As it stands now, the only reason I go to a theater at all is because I want to watch the movie right now and its not out on DVD yet. I hate going to the theater.
 
you should have bought something like jellybeans or something so you could throw at them when its really dark 🙂

Like I said, wait a week or two and try to go mid-day. MUCH better experience.
 
This is why I love it when I go to a movie and half of the local Samoan Gangsta population is in the audience. They'll stand up before the movie starts and throw out a warning that if anybody interrupts the movie or if a cell phone goes off, they better run.
