Wouldn't the 6800GT blow this card away?

Sure...in Doom 3. But HL 2 sounds to have been developed with ATI cards in mind, so it may beat the GT there.

This is the X800 Pro. 12 pipelines. I would try to get something with atleast 16, but I guess for now the X800 Pro will do great in HL2.

Specs at outpost indicate 16 pipelines. Which is it? If it's 16, I think I might go in.

Edit:

Oh, and DeathEvil, thanks for the post and welcome to ATHDF.

Thanks, Evil, and welcome to AF. It wasn't too long ago that the 9800XT was going for $400. How much faster is this than the 9800XT?
I for one and doing ok with my PNY, but someday I will upgrade as we all will. That someday may be Tuesday.

X800pro is much faster than 9800XT especcialy when you are using 1600X1200 resolution with AA and AF

Only 8681 posts? please... your comment was really unnecessary. It currently IS the best price on the net, even if it is a pre-order.

Too bad it gets mauled by the 6800GT

Not always, we should remember that Ati is not best in making drivers especcialy for new chips like X800 series so first we should wait some time until new drivers will be relased. Ati cards are not that power hungry like Nvidia 6800serie, and all ati cards are one slot whick is also a plus.

in another side 6800series have PS&WS3.0 whick is cool is programmers will use that in next games, nvidia always have great drivers, Nvidia is cooperating with companys like EA, Ubisoft etc so overall nvidia gets better support in games than Ati.

I read all the test, benchmarks etc. And there is no winner. Both chips are great and both have + and -

best regards

it's no secret tha nvidia performs much better in openGL applications/games.

while ATi usually has the upper hand with Dx9 games

fyi: doom III = openGL

it really depends on which games you play/intend on playing

All X800 Pro's have 12 pipes, and the XT has 16. Outpost seems to get the details mixed up on a regular basis. They had the PNY 6800GT listed to have dual DVI.
