I was watching Jim Lehrer the other night, and they were doing a story on the California Power situation. On one hand you had the so-called "Tree-Huggers", and on the other the power companies.
Well, in between were a group who accuse the power companies of "hiding" power generators. Well, that sounded strange, but they (Lehrer) followed it up.
The claim comes from the fact, and admitted to by a power company (I forget the name) that the number of generators currently offline for scheduled maintenance is three times that of any previous year.
So, the people who are claiming that Cali power companies are hiding generators argue that to take 3 times more generators offline for scheduled maintenance than normal, especially during a power crisis, was done to hike prices.
The power company in question (I forget the name, again) rebuttled that it was scheduled and normal, but wouldn't provide maintenance records as proof.
Looks like the power situation out there is a bit more murky than most thought.
