I found the cause of my sound problems...you're not going to believe this!

The problem is SETI@home. When I have it running I get horrid static and clipping when I play games, mp3s, or any other sound file.

But when I turn it off I get perfect sound. WTF?!?!? Anybody know why this might be happening? Thanks.

Well, it DOES beat up on the cpu pretty hard. Could that have something to do with it?

I don't think that's the problem. I had SETI going 24-7 on my K6-3 400 and SB AWE64. All the other components, except for the mobo, were the same as listed below.

reinstall drivers, as that might fix problem...

Try enabling the memory hole at 15-16M option in you BIOS-that usually solves the static problem with VIA boards and the SBlive.

I've already tried re-installing the drivers with no luck. I'll try enabling the memory hole in the BIOS at 15-16M.

And I'm already doing RC5 for Anandtech as well!!!
