I was doing community service today with some friends at a warehouse (We sort goods). We were randomly given the CDs.
The employees there said that if we found anything we liked, we could keep it

This is what I got:
A mouse
7 DVD-RWs
5 CD-RWs
Microsoft OFFICE 2002 (Still in a sealed case)
Warcraft I/II/Expansion (Just for old times sake)
MAC OS X 10.1

I found like a few hundred microsoft XP professionals but they were the DELL kind 🙁

At least I got some stuff out of working there besides just hours 😀

For those of us that own Dell's, those are pretty useful. 😉

uh oh
I was an idiot
I thought that each CD was for each computer
D'OH
I have no idea how I thought that

How do you get assigned to do warehouse sorting?

just sign up (You hafta sign a waver in case some stuff happens)
Funny story... before we were given the cds, we were given boxes that held bodily fluids that sometimes held STDs (My hope is that they were cleaned very thoroughly beforehand)

They take stuff that would be thrown away and we sort out the stuff that'll be sent to teachers to use in schools

Community service... as in "court-ordered"?

Community service as in that thing just about every college-bound high school student does, often because their school forces them to, because it looks good on a college application.

Frankly I think it's stupid that colleges even care about community service anymore, because they must know that most high school students only do it because colleges expect to see it on their application.

I just got a real paying job and that covered my community service hours.

Around here, paying jobs can't count.

Community service is nice: I did it a couple of times as a volunteer: we fixed about a hundred kids bikes and gave them to needy families and orphanages.
I feel I should do it more often, but weekends are always so busy these days.

My last community service was mandatory - litter abatement. I was there several Sat morning starting at 7AM. We picked up trash, pulled weeds, shoveled rocks etc...
