I finally moved to Firefox in an attempt (I'm desperate at this point) to get Anandtech to load for me. The problem isn't really that it's slow, it's just getting hung up at SOME point in the process. It displays the AT logo and all of the tabs and graphics associated with them. It also loads the left and right graphics just fine. But then it doesn't display the middle of the screen. Usually it will just show that it's working but never get anywhere (even if I leave it for hours), other times - and this only happens when I'm reading articles, not when I'm posting in the forums - it will say it's done thinking and just with there with a big blank space in the middle of the screen. The only way to get around these problems is to keep reloading the page, keep hitting "enter" when the address bar is selected, or hitting "go" over and over again. Eventually it just works.
I ran a tracert from work (on forums.anandtech.com), but it didn't post a thing. Then I tried it from home and it got to step 12 or 13 and timed out.
So FINALLY I got Firefox to see if it would work faster. It seems to work a little better (not much), but more importantly, I think I found where the problem is. When I load pages with Firefox, it shows the site it's trying to contact at the bottom of the screen. Thus, I can tell where it's trying to go when it hangs. It's hanging CONSTANTLY on the sites adfarm.mediaplex.com, img.mediaplex.com, and images.anandtech.com.
Now that last site isn't a big deal. It's just avatars and such, and I can at least read the page if I stop it from running. However, if it stops on one of the other two, it hasn't loaded the page information yet.
I have the sneaky suspicion that you may HAVE to load the ads before the text because of contractual obligations, but if that's not the case, is there ANY WAY that you can do this the other way around in future versions of the page? Or is there a way I can get around this? I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place, but I'm losing my mind. No other page on the internet (I know, I go to them all) has this problem so consistently.
Thank you for any response at all.
