I found my next house

2150 sqft, 2 story, 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, study, 2 car garage, 1 acre wooded lot....I'm in love. It's in the middle of the boonies, but actually only takes 20 minutes to get to work. I'm not sure if they have cable out there or not which could pose problems with broadband.

It's listed at $250,000, and I have a little more than 10% of that for a downpayment. I checked bankrate.com and for about $1300/month (plus PMI, insurance, and taxes) I can have it. Anyone just wanna give me a couple grand?

Anyways, here's a Pic

Holy crap.. in North Carolina they actually sell houses on wooded lots? Here in Texas they knock down all the trees and plant boring grass, and it pisses me off. Who wouldn't want to live in a small forest? It's a great way to support biodiversity, especially if you have a whole neighborhood built that way. Not digging the style of the house though. Looks too "manufactured".

I like wooded lots as long as the trees aren't in any position to fall on the house. That's always been a fear of mine. 😛 Nice house....the ones in the boonies are always the most peaceful to live in.

Oh trust me they do that here in NC too. The house I'm in now (in Durham) is on .11 acres. I can literally reach out and touch someone. Pisses me off too! I'm not crazy about the vinyl siding, but if I wanted a brick home in the same style, I'd probably be looking at $300K for the same dimensions.

I'm just glad my view of my neighbors is at least partially obstructed. I hate the fact that I can peer into someones home from within mine if they have their blinds open. I like to be able to strut around the house nekkid and I'd hate to scare people and cause them to gouge their eyes out 😉

How beautiful.

Here's the flip side: on my street a house was just listed this week. An ordinary 4 Bdr 2 Ba home, 1470 square feet for $825,000.

Can't believe it.

You misunderstood me, I only want 250,000 not 250,000,000...although I wouldn't turn it down 😉

OMG! Where do you live and what kind of salary do you have to pull down to afford a house like that? And how do they fit 4 bedrooms in 1470 sqft?

Why would you want to live in a wooded area. To seculuded. I would rather live in an area like this: http://filelibrary.myaasite.com/Content/0/458/10389014.jpg where the homes are nice and close together.

I'd prefer either a wooded area like the OP's, or an urban, with houses a few feet from each other, and very small yard--- the European style. There is nothing desireable about regular suburban housing with a big grass lawn wasting water and space, and polluting the water table.

If you can afford to do it, do it. Don't do it because you WANT it. Can you afford it. That is the real question you need to ask yourself. I heard just yesterday, last year American's were at an all time high for car repo's, foreclosures, etc. Credit card debt up the ying yang. Don't do it just because you want it, do it because you know you can afford it.

I could of had a house built, I opted not to do it, bought a cheaper older home instead.

Don't see how they are wasting space. The the lawns aren't that big really. Its only a small area infront of the homes.

I really want some seclusion since I'm all introverted and redneck and stuff 😉 Seriously though, that's a nice house you listed, but I'm afraid the neighborhood would be too crowded for me. I prefer to have some space to myself without the neighbors being all up in my business if you know what I mean. The house I'm intrested in is in a subdivision, except the lots are all 1 acre or bigger. Plus the wooded area gives me some privacy without having to build a fence and let's me enjoy nature and crap like that. Plus you know, since I'm in the south, if I see a deer in the backyard I can pull out the ole .30-06 and get me some dinner! 😉

theres no need to pay PMI, get 1 mortgage for 80%, and 2nd mortgage for 10%
the second mortgage will cost a little more, but it's still less than PMI

Most people hate places liek that because tehy actually want hte kids to have a nice yard to grow up. Matters what phase of life you are in though.

Our potnetial next home actually has stats VERY simlar to the OPs next home. The difference is that we would have a sloped lot and only about 0.25 of the 1 acre we get is flat. That issue alone might make us not take it.

Oh, also in CT, so the home is a $425K home that needs work.

I live in Ojai, CA. The neighborhood is nothing special.
Never been in the house but mine is less sq ft than this one and has 4 bedrooms and 2 baths.

I don't have a handle on what salary you must make but it would naturally depend on your down payment.

The taxes are based on your purchase price so they will be obscene.

I'm talking about the sprawling Texas suburbs.
