well, JCH13 did and sent it to me.. http://nh.craigslist.org/cto/2352751391.html

So cheap....but I'm out of garage bays! 🙁 You can get a running 5SFE for a few hundred bucks, too...gah!

Oh, and from MR2OC.com on how to swap the motors in n/a MR2s:

Want a 95 motor in your 91? ...a Camry motor in your 2? ...maybe a Celica? Heres how:

remove the motor from said offending car. and install the motor in your car. thats is. nothing more. zero.

so frequently theres questions that go something like..

"ive got a 91 with a bad motor, and im gonna put a 93+ motor in.. how do i get all the accessories and harnesses to work with my car"

.. oooor

"ive got a mr2 with a bad motor, and i found a 5sfe from a camry/celica but heard the harness is different and the brackets dont work! what do i do!"

heres the answer! do nothing! install JUST the motor! its a very straight forward procedure, strip your old motor bare of all the accessories, and strip the new motor bare of all its accessories (or better yet, dont even get the accessories!). install all your accessories, such as wiring harness, intake manifold, sensors, water outlets, alternator bracket, and intake and exhaust manifolds, and reinstall the motor. nothing to fab, nothing to rewire and resplice.

i have a 95 motor in my 91. i used only the motor, and it went in without a hitch! didnt have to modify anything, or make funky bracket changes, or swap plugs around. just use the block and it drops right in and runs just like your old one. this will save you an enormous amount of time, money, effort, and headache.

maybe we can sticky this.. honestly, mr2 motor swaps are really easy, and might take a short weekend to complete if you do it right, and use all your current stuff. no need to complicate such a routine basic remove and replace swap!

I heard people put an old 2.5 V6 in the back of the MR2's... from toyota or lexus... I forgot...

1MZFE (3.0l), 3VZFE (3.0l), 5VZFE (3.4l) and 2GRFE (3.5l) have been done. There's also an Audi 4.2l V8 swap in Gainesville FL, a 32v Northstar V8 in a Mk1 done by Bill Strong (owner of MR2OC.com), and a radial (yes, aircraft engine) somewhere. I think someone is working on a V10 as well.

I got a call around 6pm and he said someone from Cambridge MA came up and bought it. Ahwell. 🙁

From what I gather, he ran it out of oil..he said it started knocking on him and a shop told him that it was either a sticky piston or rod knock (...). Apparently he was driving it the other day and it would stall whenever he pushed the clutch in, so he'd restart it and keep driving. Eventually he had to floor it because it had no power. Then it caught on fire...hence the subsequent tow/etc as mentioned in the ad.

It takes mad skills to kill a 5SFE.

I would like to think that most people would realize that something was wrong with the car if it was knocking and stalling when the clutch was depressed...but I guess some people just put their right foot to the floor and call it good enough? 😕

I do kinda want an n/a MR2, though. I'm not really sure why, other than because I've never had one...
