Well, I'm committed now to moving out. The marriage is officially, if not legally, over.
It's about two blocks from our house, not luxurious but comfortable, and amazingly cheap for the neighborhood. (This is an area of really expensive houses) I'll be signing the lease tomorrow, forking over $4500 (1000/first month, 1 1/2 months security, one month realtor fee). And then on Feb. 1st, if all goes well, my son and I will be moving.
The fun stuff is still to come: agreeing on all of the financial details. Ex wants to buy a place with his new girlfriend, so he's motivated. I hope. For a while there I thought I was going to be penniless, but it sounds like he's mellowed and will be agreeing to some reasonable division without me having to sue.
I know how SaigonK feels: I can't wait to go shopping for the new place! I didn't feel that way until I decided on the space.
