I found a Windows XP bug!

Open your recycle bin and make sure the address bar is visible.

Now, try to use the address bar to go to, say, http://forums.anandtech.com/

Unless you're a really fast typist, the URL will be reset to the word "Recycle Bin" after a few seconds.

I feel so special. I have my very own Windows XP bug.

I guess I'm the first nutcase to try to surf the internet with the recycle bin!

why is that necessarily a bug

It's not. Try it from an Explorer window, the control panel window, from just about every window. Basically a lot of XP uses explorer...

If you copy and paste an address in there it works. However, if you type it slow enough, it does change back to "Recycle Bin" 😕

The REAL bug in XP is how it locks down half your media files and doesn't let you delete them unless you go into a command prompt. That gets REALLY old, REALLY fast.

i'm typing really slow and its not changing back. the BUG is in your HEAD!

teh noes!! head bugs!!

it does say "Recycle Bin" for me, but for only a brief moment. After that AT forums open up just fine.

Not for me. I didn't try typing it. I copied and pasted it and it changed in less then a second's time. Almost instantly. I'll try typing......

Yep same thing. I could barely get in a couple of letters before it changed.

Strange. I wonder if others are getting different results if it might be some sort of glitch created by the right mix of variables, drivers, hardware, software....etc.....

I'll test this on the next computer I build right after a clean install before anything elses goes in.

Now I'm curious.....

mine was also very fast. I think it was about a second after I typed the first letter that it changed back.

Or you can just delete the reg key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE >SOFTWARE >Classes > CLSID > {87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}> InProcServer32

I was having that problem with deleting .avi files

*of course always backup your registry 😉
