I am thinking about going back and getting it. They had it marked for 139, I offered a 100 and he said 125 plus tax. It has the box, stand and case. Would you pay that?

Yes.

I'm sure as of the quality of Canon flashes these day, but $125 is and excellent price for any kind of flash.

My 20 years old $500 430EZ still work.

Not a bad price. I LOVE my Yongnuo YN560 that I picked up last month. Very powerful and quick, and only $60 on Amazon. No ETTL though, so you have to actually learn how to use light. ;)

Yes, that is a good deal IMO (although it kind of depends on your existing lighting equipment). I like my 430EX. I have studio lights for when I need real lighting. The 430EX is plenty powerful enough for everything else. I honestly do not see much benefit in moving to the 580EX, which is significantly bigger and heavier. If you are a heavy event photographer and have the need for external power, then you need the 580EX. Otherwise you are good with the 430EX. Of course there are cheaper off-brand options (as well as the Canon 270EX and 220EX, neither of which are any good), which may be good or bad depending on how handy you are with manually setting your flash power. But a 430EX for $125 is very good value per dollar IMO.
